A Shadow of the Past Part Five

Disclaimers: this is fiction, which means its not true. I dont own any truth here cause there is none to be found. This is just a story, but if youre here on this site, then you already know that. Luv.

The Story:

Adam and Hunter had eaten a quick breakfast in the kitchen before agreeing their best bet was just to borrow Jades pimp mobile to go pick up a tire from Georges Garage. What Jade didnt know wouldnt hurt him.

They still in the back? Adam whispered.

Hunter peered out the kitchen window. Yeah, theyre sitting at the bench. Man, Jades really into that story, isnt he?

Adam grimaced slightly, then took Jades car keys out of his make-up bag. It held mostly picks and extra packs of guitar strings, but somewhere deep at the bottom was at least one or two eyeliner pencils. So Hunter and Adam christened it Jades make-up bag, the bane of straight men.

Come on, I got them. Adam said, making sure not to jingle the keys. He felt the pink, fuzzy rabbits foot in his sweaty palm. When they were in the car and driving down the street, Hunter asked. Adam was expecting it. He dreaded it, but he expected it.

So, uhm, Hunter started, looking at Adam sideways. Er. . . you an that Davey. . . you guys. . .

No. Adam said.

I mean, not last night. Hunter said slowly. Look, Im not looking for details. Just asking what you two are to each other. You were. . . lovers once? That it?

Adam frowned and sighed. I. . . I dont know really. We were. . . young. And it happened so fast. . . I dont think we really understood what it all was. He looked at Hunter and must not have liked what he saw. Damn. That sounds bad. Look, nothing really happened, okay? We were just kids going through puberty. So we fooled around? Doesnt mean were marrying. Angrily, he pressed his foot harder on the gas pedal, going well past the speed limit.

Hunter held onto the oh shit handle, the handle just inside the passenger side door, and grabbed the dash, thinking that maybe he would end this journey with the crazed Adam by actually saying Oh, shit!

But either Adam calmed down far enough, or else he remembered this wasnt his car. He slowed back down to the proper speed. Sorry about that. Guess Im just a little. . . unnerved by all this. He spoke quietly and kept his eyes on the road ahead. Hunter dared a glance at his friend.

No, Adam wasnt getting over it all that easily. He could tell by the set of his jaw and the way his eyes began to squint as they peered about. Adam didnt appear to be liking something. . . what it was, Hunter was having a dreaded feeling.

Jade led Davey outside and sat him at one side of the picnic bench while he took the other side. All right. Jade sat down, then looked up at Davey. The other simply sat there. Jade broke out in a smile and laughed.

So Adam was a player in elementary? Damn! And I thought I was the ladies man.

Davey smiled softly, turning his eyes to the side. Well, I dont know about all that. His main focus was on Tanisha Bridges. She was very pretty. Her and. . . well, me. . . we were the only ones he was interested in. I suppose I was just the filler whenever Tanisha wasnt around. But we had our moments. his eyes glazed over in memories.

This wasnt good. Jade wanted more, dammit. Hey, you going to keep talking or do I have to poke you?? Come on! Speak! So did you two like. . . you know, start with the tongue tango then move on to bigger and better things? What happened?

Davey sighed, somewhat sadly.

******************************************

As it turned out, Davey wasnt in trouble when he got home. His father hadnt come home yet. Most likely he was at the bar with his buddies. But Daveys mom was there and it took everything Davey had just to get through the night without breaking out in tears.

All the while he thought back to earlier that afternoon, when he had been with Adam. That had been nice. Very nice. Davey didnt have that many friends. Most of his time at school was spent hiding from bullies or in the nurses office getting band-aids coated with neosporin. He had a friend, once. She was a little girl, no bigger than he was. But the other kids had picked on her and made her cry one day and her parents took her home, never to bring her back. He had liked her. She had hair just like his and kept calling him Sally, even though he would giggle and tell her his real name. She would giggle, too, and say, Okay, Sally.

But that had been back in kindergarten. Not much has changed, but now Davey is all alone. There are other kids in his class that get picked on by the bullies, but Davey is too shy and afraid of them to become their friends. So theres no psychic ability required to know that the next school day Davey was once again hiding. At first recess, he hid behind the cafeteria again, but when he heard footsteps coming, he got up and ran away, fearing some kids would know he hid there often. He didnt think it could possibly be Adam.

It was, hed find out later. Adam hurried over to the spot, but Davey wasnt there. They had different classes, so Adam didnt know if he was even here today. He guessed not. So he found the crate and sat down, trying to think of what to do next.

He wasnt alone for long, however. Louis De Lefleur had seen him hurry to the passage behind the cafeteria and followed, deeply curious. When he got there and saw Adam simply sitting there, he grew disappointed. And idea hit him. Hey, Adam! He called, running forward.

Adams head jerked up and he watched Louis run over. What? he asked.

You wanna go see if we can get on the office roof? I hear thats where John H. lost his yellow frisbee. You wanna see if its still there?

The office was a tall building, making the top of its roof dangerously high. There was a way to get on, but by careful use of the fence on the side. It was high, dangerous and could get them suspended from school for at least a week.

Adam looked skeptically up at Louis for all of a minute before grinning. Okay! the two ran off.

*********************

Davey, meanwhile, had been strolling the empty class halls, hoping the yard teacher, or any other teacher for that matter, found him wandering around. No such luck.

Hey! What are you doing out of your class? a stern voice reproached him. He turned in surprise to see the dreaded Mrs. Kern, the assistant principals secretary march up to him. She was second in terror only to her boss.

I-Im at recess. Davey said meekly, hands playing with the end of his braid.

The bull lady frowned down at him with fists planted on her hips. Well? Shouldnt you be out on the playground? What are you doing in the halls? Causing mischief? Silence. Davey didnt know what to say. He was absolutely terrified.

Mrs. Kern opened her mouth to speak but a bubbling, hearty laugh stopped her. Davey and Mrs. Kern both turned to see Miss Jenny, the school nurse stroll up. Why, Mrs. Kern! Dont worry about little David there. Hes a good little boy. Hes helping me. I asked him to take a message for me. About time you got back, David. Come, help me take these packages to the nurses station. She handed him two of the four boxes she held and steered him away from the scowling secretary.

Miss Jenny could have easily carried the boxes herself, Davey saw, but she gave him a wink and he said nothing. When they were safe within the nurses office, Miss Jenny sighed. Good lord, that woman needs a vacation. Id say permanent, but Id settle for just that time of the month. She gave a tittering laugh and took the boxes from Davey.

He sat on the chair by the examination bed and watched her. What time of the month is that, Miss Jenny?

She turned bright red, nearly the shade of her soft curls. She looked down at him and smiled at his innocent curiosity. Dont worry, sweetie. Im rambling today. My! Look at you! Is that a new shirt?

Nope. Davey smiled from her attention. Its the one I wore on Monday. I finally figured out how to start the washer all by myself!

Oh, did you? she laughed, thinking he was simply being cute. Besides, nearly all the little boys that came to her had cuts, scrapes, bruises and were more than often dirty. She hardly made the distinction now with Davey.

There was the sound of shuffling feet. Did I hear the cutest little voice in the world? it Mrs. Magdalene, another lady who worked in the adjacent front office. She came through the door and smiled broadly at Davey. He liked Mrs. Magdelene, but not as much as Miss Jenny. Mrs. Magdelene had the tendency to pinch his cheeks when she got too excited. As she did now.

Both women showered him with praises and touched his hair, remarking on how gorgeous it was. He blushed furiously, but this was always better than the complete opposite outside. Miss Jenny knew that, too.

What are you doing in here, little David? Mrs. Magdelene asked, still hugging him. You arent sick, are you sweetie?

No. He shook his head.

Miss Jenny glanced over at him. She was refilling the jars on the counter with tongue depressors and band-aids. Hes probably trying to stay clear of the bullies, is that right, David? They picking on you again?

Aww, poor little Davey. Mrs. Magdelene crooned. You stay away from those wretched little bullies. Theyre no good. Why not tell your teacher about them? Hhm? See if theyre parents will like them bullying other kids.

As nice as she was, Davey didnt think he could do that. What, and call the kids behaviors to their parents attention and subsequently get his own parents attention as well? So he forced a smile. No one was picking on me, Mrs. Magdelene, honest! I was just wandering around by myself. I was really bored.

Oh, you precious child! she told him, pinching his cheeks again. Well, I need to get back to my desk. You make sure you stay far away from those kids, then, all right? And if one of them starts something, go straight to your teacher or just come here to the office, okay? Well listen to you when you need us, okay, sweetie? with a kiss to his temple, Mrs. Magdelene left.

Miss Jenny smiled at him. Come now, David. Why dont you help me? I think youve got a good ten minutes left on the bell. You can re-fill the lollipop jar. She whispered to him, handing him the box of suckers, And go on, take one for yourself, too. Just dont let anyone see youve got it.

Thank you, Miss Jenny. Davey said, pocketing a grape lolli. He had the jar half-way filled when there came a groan from the doorway.

Whats this now? Miss Jenny asked, looking over at the two boys in the doorway, being escorted by the yard teacher.

I caught these two, she gave them a slight shake, making them wince, trying to get themselves on top of the roof of this here building. Said they were looking for a frisbee. Humph! Mischief is more like it!

Miss Jenny frowned. Are they hurt? Did they fall? she immediately took both boys by the hand and sat them on the examination table.

One did. That tall one there. Dangled on the roof for a good minute or two before landing flat on the grass. This second one here got caught somehows on the fence and couldnt get down. Both got scrapes, really.

Thank you. Miss Jenny said. The yard teacher went to go fill out parent notices to be sent home. Miss Jenny finished her quick examination of both boys. Okay, nothing broken. But I reckon you both are going to be fit to a lot a bruises. Louis, that cut needs iodine. I can see the dirt still in there. Adam, you sit right there til I get back. And honestly, will the two of you EVER get through a week without seeing me?

Why would we want to do that? Adam grinned at her. He was trying to be sly but all it earned him was a scorching look from the nurse.

Come on, Louis, lets pour over the sink. she grabbed the brown bottle off the shelf and led a whining louis to the sink at the other side of the room.

Adam looked at Davey and smiled. This where you been, Davey? Thought you were sick today.

Naw, I was wandering around a bit. Davey said shyly. He put another handful of suckers into the jar. Adam saw this and wanted one, but was too afraid of Miss Jennys wrath to ask Davey to sneak one.

But for some odd reason, Davey knew he wanted one. He also knew Adam liked the red ones. He glanced over to see Adam watching, then pointedly pocketed a red one. When Adam smiled widely, Davey put a finger to his lips. Just in time, too. Miss Jenny returned with Louis.

She sighed. Adam, your turn.

**********************************************

Wait, wait, Jade held up his hands, smiling faintly, hold up. How the hell did you hear him if he didnt say anything? Dont tell me youre psychic.

Davey frowned but smiled. What, you dont believe that?

Pfft! No. Jade combed some of his short red hair out of his face. Davey followed the movement and noticed the freckles on his arms for the first time, even though hed been staring down the whole time he spoke. Psychics read your palms or use tarot cards. Mind readings something for sci-fi movies. That stuff never happens in the real world.

Davey didnt argue. Instead, he clasped his hands in front of him and laced his fingers. His eyes sank half-closed and crinkled slightly so that Jade knew he was grinning. Jade waited, but Davey still said nothing. He smiled. Okay, okay. Prove it! Prove to me youre psychic! Read my mind.

Daveys hands lowered to show he was pressing his lips together again. I cant. Davey admitted. Not unless Adams here. Believe me, I tried for years, just trying to sense my aura and find my balance. . . all that crap. I cant do it. Not without my Adam.

Jade snickered. Your Adam? Hes YOURS? Ha!

Davey slouched defensively. Sorry! It was a slip! Dont tell him!

Mwahahaha! Jade gave an evil laugh as he adjusted his bench. No, just kidding! Dont worry so much, man. Im not the kind that spreads gossip. Sure, I hear it, but I wont spread it.

What about Hunter? Davey asked.

Him? Oh, he only gets to hear stuff thats not so serious. Id tell him, but hed just get scared again. Jade actually poked Daveys arm now. Sing, my little nightingale. Keep talking. So you hear Adams thoughts. He know this? Howd you guys deal with it in school? You guys cheat on tests? Ha!

Davey smiled. Yeah, well, Adam was always stressing over one test or other. Over the years, Id just kind of feel him struggling over a problem or two. Id try and help, but it was hard that first year because we had different classes and our connection was only faint. Besides, I wasnt too fond of Adam. Not after what he did. Davey grew solemn and glared down at the tables surface. Jade watched as Davey continued the tale.

*******************************************

Davey didnt see Adam until the next day. He wasnt suspended, thankfully, but he now had to serve two weeks worth of detention for putting himself and Louis into danger. All this was nothing to Adam.

Really, its not. He told Davey as they sat side by side on the crate. Detentions arent shit. Not really. What I cant stand is how my mom and dad took it. They were all like, we raised you better than this and yak yak yak. Im grounded from goin outside after school. But I talked to my mom last night and she said it would be all right if you came over and visited. I think my mom likes you, man.

Yeah, Davey nodded, I get that. I think they like my hair. When I get older, Im gonna cut it all off.

Adam gave him a sideways glance. Dont.

Davey frowned, poking a dead bug with a stick. Why? Its my hair. And you even said it makes me look like a girl.

I know. Adam grimaced. But. . . I dunno. I kinda like it. It smells good. And its all soft.

Davey leaned forward with the pretense of examining the bug carcass carefully. Truth was, he didnt want Adam to see his blush.

Adam truly did not care for watching the traffic go by. He wanted to do something. He didnt know what, but he wanted to do it now. Davey sat up, frowning. Well, if you dont know what, how are you going to do it? he asked.

Adam froze. Davey heard him? In his mind, he thought of the old Xmen comic books in his room. He thought of Jean Grey and of Professor X. He smiled. Davey smiled. I like the one with the claws.

Wolverine. Adam said.

Hey, bub. Davey tried to look menacing as he held up his fist, but failed. Adam laughed. He saw Davey smile and was suddenly struck with an idea. What it was, Davey couldnt pick up on it. It was on a different wave length than all of Adams other thoughts.

What? Davey asked, frowning. Adam looked away quickly, staring blankly out at traffic.

Nothing. he shook his head.

No, Davey decided, he didnt like this. What was Adam thinking? Why isnt he looking at me? Did I do something wrong?

Adam heard this and looked at his friend. He forced himself to look steadily into Daveys eyes. He needed courage. Davey, uhm. . . you wanna kiss for a while?

Daveys eyes widened and his color flushed. After a moment, his face hid behind both of his hands. Adam heard him giggling. Aw, come on! Adam absently kicked the dead bug across the way to hit the chain-link fence. Weve got a whole lunch hour! Thats forever! If were not kissing, what the hell are we gonna do for the rest of our recess?

Davey chuckled some more and peeked out at Adam. S-sorry, Adam. Just. . . he cut himself off and hid behind his hands again. He seemed to be collecting himself. Slowly, his hands came down and lay on his lap. His face was pink, but he was no longer laughing. It seems he found courage, too.

He looked at Adam and waited. The other took this as agreement and commenced their new interest. Daveys only worry was that he might bite down on Adams tongue out of sheer nervousness. He didnt think there would be someone watching. Someone who could hurt him.

***************************************

Michael Dunn had scoured the playground looking for Adam. He wanted to show off his new pack of baseball cards. They were Premium Fleer Ultra Edition. Hell of a lot better than that stupid Carsons. And much, much more expensive.

But no luck. He even dared a peek into the girls restroom to see if Adam was chasing after Tanisha. Tanisha was there, but so were her gang of girls. The boys ran out in a hurry, laughter and shrieks chasing after them.

Where the hell is that bastard? Michael asked. His group today was Andy Wilcock and Jimmy Hernandez.

Maybe hes with that one kid. Jimmy said, shrugging.

What one kid? Dunn asked sharply.

I dunno. Just some kid with long hair. I saw them walking in the halls just before I saw you guys. They looked like they were coming out here.

You see where they went? Michael peered about.

Naw. Thought you didnt want to see Adam.

I dont. Michael said. But I was going to show him my new deck. That wuss doesnt have anything like this. He flashed them the sacred deck and quickly put it back in his pocket before the other two could even build air for a gasp.

Wow! Andy said, thats cool! You gonna trade him for his ripped Yogi Berra? You know, I asked my dad an he said it aint worth shit.

Fuck his cards. Michael spat on the ground. I was just going to show him that hes not the only one who can get a new pack. My mom said I can get a new pack every week. the others awed. But I want to find that bastard. You guys, start looking.

*****************************************

Adam pulled back and frowned. Whats that in your mouth?

What? Davey touched his fingertips to his lips. What do you mean?

Let me see. Adam gently pulled Daveys bottom lip down. Even through the care he had taken, Davey still winced. That. Thats a cut. Howd you get that?

When Davey didnt answer, Adam let go of his lip. Sorry. he shrugged.

Its okay. Davey touched the inside of his lip. I got that when my mom found out I burned toast. She got mad and started hitting me with this thing. . . I dunno what it is. She keeps it in the restroom. Sometimes its plugged in and all hot. Burned me a couple times.

A curling iron? Adam frowned. My moms got one of those. Was it on when she hit you.

Naw. Davey shook his head. It was off. But it only hurt a little. he winced, feeling the cut again. He was telling the truth. It only hurt slightly. Hed felt a lot worse before. There were times when he was beat near unconsciousness. But all this he was careful not to broadcast to Adam. He didnt want his new friend to worry.

Oh. Adam said simply. He looked at the traffic, then back at Davey. You still wanna keep kissing?

Davey nodded Yeah, just dont touch it, okay? Kinda hurts now.

Adam nodded and they resumed kissing, just as Michael Dunn peered down the walkway between the cafeteria and the chain-link fence.

Dunn stared at the two, jaw dropping. What the hell was this? Adam got himself a girlfriend? No. . . he knew all the girls at school and he didnt recognize this one, especially since all he could see was their long hair. Stupid Adam was in the way. He felt very tempted to go and spook them, maybe make fun of Adam in front of his girlfriend, had not the bell rang. He watched as Adam and his friend both stood and walked out the other way, heading for class.

Michael started back, frowning. Jimmy Hernandez ran up to him. Hey you find him yet?

Uh, no. Michael said slowly. Uhm, Jimmy, was his friend a boy or a girl?

Jimmy shrugged. It mustve been a boy. Ive seen him around.

A boy, with long hair in a braid? He asked.

Jimmy frowned. Yeah! Thats it! Why?

I think I seen him around, too. Dunn said, thinking he might want to have a talk with his father.

*********************************************

Today, Davey was happy. Today, Adam promised theyd kiss again. He wasnt able to go to Adams house yesterday since he had to go home and clean the house before his father came home, but today was better. Today, Davey woke up early and cleaned before he had left for school. He just hoped his mother didnt make too much of a mess before he got home again.

He couldnt find Adam in the halls so came here and sat on the crate, faintly smiling. Adam knew where to find him. Hed come here like he did the day before last.

Davey waited for nearly half the recess before he heard what he had been waiting for: footsteps shuffling toward him. He looked up and saw Adam making his way along the fence, face down. But something was wrong. Michael Dunn was walking right behind him, followed by Andy Wilcock and Eric Madison.

Hes led them to you, a tiny voice whispered in Daveys mind. Sudden terror gripped him. What was going on? Why was Adam bringing them over here? What were they going to do?

He watched them walk up, then succumbed to his fright. He made a mad dash down the other end but Jimmy Hernandez was there, apparently to make sure Davey didnt bolt. Jimmy caught him and shoved him hard against the cafeteria wall, pinning him there until Michael and the others walked up. When they got closer, Jimmy let him go but stood guard to make sure he didnt try and run again.

Dont cry, dont cry, he told himself, they hit you more when you cry, please dont cry, please dont cry.

But like any horrible psychosis, Davey felt the first of many tears falling down his cheeks. Adam glanced up finally and saw this. He stopped five feet away, not able to move further. Michael gave him a hard shove, causing him to stagger.

Go on! Michael told him, sneering. Lets see it. Do it.

When Adam didnt move immediately, Michael gave him another shove. All right! Adam growled at him, pulling free, Fine! he stepped up to Davey, who cowered and shook. Adam ignored Daveys whimper and concentrated on his friends quivering lip.

Im not gonna hurt you. Adam whispered softly. He leaned forward and kissed Davey on the lips. It was wet, but only from Daveys tears. Adam pulled back and felt his lips, eyes going wide at what hed just done. Without a word or even a thought, Adam turned and ran. The others let him go, too intent on watching Davey like he was some interesting new specimen they had never laid eyes on.

Davey cried openly now. He didnt know what was going on, but who had been his only friend, his only back-up, had just run away to leave him with one of the worst bullies in the playground.

Andy Wilcock was the first to move. He took one step forward, then another. Davey trembled as a shiver ran through him. He had a bad feeling about this. . .

Andy stepped up and kissed him on the mouth, soft and simple, eyes open. He stepped back and gave a chuckle. He turned to his friends. That wasnt so bad. Kinda fun.

Let me try! Jimmy Hernandez pushed Andy out of the way and planted his own sloppy one on Davey. Davey whimpered but it was ignored as they now pushed Eric Madison in front of him.

Eric, it seemed, had a conscience. He looked uneasily at Daveys tear stained face and red rimmed eyes. Uh, I dont think I wanna. . . h-hes crying!

Just do it! Jimmy told him. It dont hurt him.

Yeah, hes just being a sissy.Andy put in. So far Michael was keeping quiet, watching Davey with a strange expression.

Eric finally gave in and hurriedly pecked Davey as quickly as he could and hurried away, wiping frantically at his mouth. Andy and Jimmy followed after him without so much as a glance back at Davey.

They were alone now, he and Michael Dunn. The bully took one step forward, expression still unclear to Davey. You like this, dont you? he accused Davey. You like kissing boys. You like kissing Adam. I saw you. He stepped up so he was face to face with Davey. He looked down at the scared little boy carefully, then kissed him on the mouth.

It would have been a nice kiss since Michael actually knew how, but it must have been a while since he had brushed his teeth. Davey wasnt sure how much longer he could take this torture.

But Michael didnt seem to willing to stop. He put a hand on Daveys arm and another. . . somewhere else. Somewhere that wasnt allowed, according to Daveys father. Somewhere that could get you a one-way ticket to hell.

Davey was now more than upset, he was outraged. Hatred boiled up inside him, twisted his stomach and turning his mind into a coil ready to snap. Michael Dunn was not sending him to hell. He was NOT!

The second he felt Dunns naughty hand barely touch him, Davey bit down hard. He caught Michaels lower lip and part of his tongue, making his blood squirt.

Dunn shrieked in rage and hit Davey until he released him. Davey dropped against the wall and huddled defensively as Michael repeatedly punched him.

Fuckin faggot! he yelled, striking with draining strength, Fuckin faggot! My dad says youre a faggot! Queer boy! He yelled at last and punched Davey one last time. He stalked off, probably feeling glad he made some kind of difference.

When he was sure he was gone, Davey lowered himself to the ground and cried. It was all confusing. He liked kissing, honestly he did! But what just happened now. . . all those guys knowing Davey liked to kiss. . . all of them kissing him. . . Michael Dunn nearly sending him straight to hell. . . it all made the thought of kissing something vile. It almost made him sick.

Davey? a quiet voice said.

Davey didnt need to look up. He knew it was Adam coming back. He probably hid in the restroom somewhere, like a coward. Daveys mind was so muddled, Adam couldnt make this out, even though Davey purposefully focused on it. To tell the truth, he didnt quite want to see Adam right now. . . or ever.

Adam winced. Davey, dont think like that. I came back to say sorry. I shouldnt have done that. Please dont cry. He knelt on one knee.

Davey glared up at him. M-Michael D-Dunn was gonna s-s-send me to hell! Shamed, he looked away quickly.

Adam tried putting a hand on Daveys shoulder but he flinched away. All right, I wont touch you, okay, Davey? Adam said. I wont touch you.

And no kissing, Davey thought harshly.

Adam reluctantly nodded. Fine. No kissing. I wont touch you an I wont kiss you. Is that better?

Strangely, it was.

****************************************

Davey stopped talking and rested his head on his forearms. Jade stared at him, unable to think of anything to say.

Finally, after an almost eternity, he spoke quietly. That was fucked up, Davey. He did that to you, and you. . . you still. . .

Davey looked up at Jade. He betrayed me, yeah. Got be beat up, too. But after that, he was the nicest person in the world. We became best friends. We became. . . Davey blushed. Well, he was different. And things changed. He protected me from Michael Dunn and anyone else who tried to hurt me. He made up for it.

But Jade saw the look in his eyes. You still dont forgive him. he said simply.

No. Davey whispered. No, I dont. Does that make me a bad person? I love him dearly. But that one thing. . . that one, I can never forgive him. Just that one time, I could hate him forever.

Jade looked to the side and saw Adam and Hunter arriving in his car. That dirty bastard. . . Jade never doubted Daveys story. If he could admit to something as harsh as that. . . no way it could be a lie.

Jade stood up and began marching into the house. He was going to give Adam a piece of his mind.
