The Story:

The two stopped short, their jaws hanging open in shock. What the fuck. . .? Adam managed, but got nothing beyond that. There really were no words for it. . . .

************

Time travel, our best friend. . .

************

Jade had led Brian back outside and offered him a beer. But the pretty-boy didnt stay by his side long. A ring from his cell phone gave him the excuse to move away from Jade and stand near the far fence.

Jade watched him go, wondering where else he could find a decent conversation now. To his annoyance, he didnt see any, save Hunter. He came around from the front yard, looking like he took some time changing at home before making it to the party.

Hey, Hunter nodded at him, looking around, whered everybody go? Since it was apparent that Tim, Lars, and all the other guys except Adam and Davey were currently scattered about the back yard, everybody actually meant Adam and Davey.

Jade looked to make sure Brian was still off to the side, too far to hear well, before speaking low. Its Davey. He. . . I dont know, had some sort of a collapse. Adams got him in the room trying to calm him down. Thinks hell be okay, though.

Hunter took all this in quite maturely. Anyone try to force him to eat meat or something?

Jade shook his head. No, just the broken glass in the kitchen. But I got that cleaned up before I came out here. Brian there found him first. Crouched on the floor and rocking back and forth. Think it might just be some sort of repressed-memory thing. Well, thats the impression I got from Adam. Been some time now, and not a peep out of those two. I think its safe to say theyll be fine. He looked at Hunter. You need a beer?

Hunter looked around carefully. Yeah. . . yeah, thanks. he frowned as he followed Jade inside. Hey, what the hells wrong with you guys? Wheres the chicks?

Jade glanced back over his shoulder. Man, Hunter, we were waiting for you to get them all here. Hunter grinned broadly.

******

It actually took him just over an hour to procure enough women to broaden the selection for the rest of the guys at the party. The only person who had anything bad to say about it was actually Tim.

Hey! The roughneck thrust a finger at Hunter, the hand still holding a can of beer. Whats the big idea? I thought this was a guys only event! Ya go an invite a bunch of pu-

Ey! A voice cut in, just as raspy and gritty as Tims. They watched a woman with a black Mohawk and skin tight low rider jeans walk up. Her leather jacket was covered with studs and old patches of even older rock and underground punk bands. On her scarlet painted lips was a sneer capable of handle ten punks at once. You watch yer mouth, fella. Theres ladies present.

She eyed Tim briefly before winking and snatching his can of beer.

Wha-? He stuttered at the audacity of the woman. He watched in shock as she brought the can up to her lips and gulped his beer down. When she was done, she let out a sigh of satisfaction, then smashed the can against her forehead. She handed the remainder back to Tim.

Tim watched her walk away, mouth slightly open. The blond who had been chatting with Hunter grinned with him as they watched the scene. Thats Brody. The girl said, Shes new in town. Looking for some fun, Id bet.

Tim said nothing, but he continued to follow her progress across the yard. Hunter had to give him a push, literally. Go on, man, go get her!

Tim nodded absently and went. He passed by Jade, who was getting REALLY fed up with his own partners chattering.

Honestly, youre not gay? she asked for the millionth time in just the past twenty minutes. I coulda sworn you were! Cause, I mean, when I first saw you, I saw all the pink an I was all like, ya, this dudes definitely gay or sumpthing yknow? It dont mean nothing to me if you are, honey, that kinda things alright, yknow? Its fine by me. I used to go out with this guy who used to have a boyfriend before me. Oooh! That boy LOVED to go shopping! And then he knew all these make-up tips, yknow, and. . .

Jade made a hasty, totally unbelievable lie to excuse himself as fast as he could. He didnt even know what he said to her. He thought he mumbled something about seeing to his orangutan on Mars. Whatever it was, it propelled his feet in the opposite direction, away from the psycho in the mini-skirt.

He had thought that the view down her low-cut top was compensation enough for her non-stop yapping, but there wasnt enough boob in the world for that.

And was it worse that he was dead sober? Yes, children, it was. His hands ached, as did his head and eyes. His throat was parched, even though he had been sipping iced tea all night. There had to be something else. If not alcohol. . .

Jade remembered that morning he woke up with Hunter sprawled on top of him as if he were a mattress. They had been topless. He shuddered and grimaced. No. Not again. There were too many guys here, even if there was just about that many girls, too. It just wasnt safe to pop open a brew and chug it down with abandonment.

So he found himself meandering his way to the kitchen to refill his glass of tea and ice. There was a couple, busy making out on the counter. Jade, glad he put the cutting board away before the guests came, quickly left them to their activity.

He wandered into the living room and found that over taken by a group watching someones recorded football game. No wanting to get thrown into an argument (his team had lost that one) Jade walked on down the hall, not even pausing at his own door. Adam and Davey would come out when they were done. He just hoped they remembered that was HIS bed and HIS sheets they were on.

He walked on and found Adams and Daveys room surprisingly empty. No one had thought to come and make out here? Strange. Jade shrugged and closed the door after him. He set his drink down on the side table and kicked off his shoes. He sprawled on the bed and prepared to fall asleep.

*************

He didnt get far. The door opened, then shut again. He opened his eyes and saw there was no one there. Giggles on the other side of the door told him someone HAD thought to use the room for sex, but seeing him there decided to find somewhere else. Good. Hoped they liked the restroom. The tub was nice and cold.

Jade sighed and wrapped his arms under his head and began to slip back to his resting state. Not a minute later and the door opened again. And closed again. Jade opened his eyes and saw no one had entered.

He sighed tiredly and turned to lay on his side. He didnt want to be bothered again. This night had been going on for far too long. All the guys were occupied with girls; all the left over girls were hideous and scary. No one to talk to. His Davey was with HIS Adam, not needing Jade in the least. He was. . . lonely.

Hunter stopped in front of the hall and watched the couple open Adams door. The stopped, closed it again, then walked away.

What is it? The blond on his arm asked.

Hunter shook his head. Think someones already using Adams room. They watched the couple go into the bathroom. And it looks like the only other place is taken, too. Sorry, babe, looks like well have to use Jades car.

She got huffy. In a CAR? What kind of a slut do you take me for?

He saw she a expected an answer. Uhm, a GOOD one?

Poor, poor Hunter. She strolled off, leaving him with a slap-stung cheek. Hunter rubbed his swore face and looked around. Okay, no more talking to HER tonight. Who else was free?

But when Hunter looked around, still in front of the hall, he realized that there WAS no one else. Two of the other three women left were lesbian, strictly, and the third knew Hunter too well to even BEGIN to forgive him. He sighed and was about to find a seat to watch the game. However, another couple stopped him.

Curious, he watched them head to Adams room. They were smiling and flirting with each other the entire way. But when they opened the door, they took one look inside, then shut the door. He watched the man say something to the woman, the woman shaking her head. She took her mans hand and started pulling him away. Their apparent amorous mood fizzled slightly.

Hunter frowned. What was going on? Who was in Adams room? WHY were they in his room? Jade had said Adam and Davey were in his room, so who was in Adams? Hunter paused, then decided to go check. He opened the door gently, but he knew its occupant still heard him enter.

It was Jade. Hunter would recognize his friend anywhere. He lay curled to the side, back to the door. Was he hurt? Did something happen?

Go away! Jade suddenly said, not turning around. The rooms taken already! Go fuck in the bathroom! Or try the garage!

Hunter smirked and shut the door firmly behind him. He saw Jades body relax. Silently, he moved around until he was in position, then jumped on the bed next to Jade.

Jade jumped at least a foot, swear word slipping out of his mouth and eyes wide in panic. What the fu? Hunter! What the hell you doing?! he demanded.

Hunter laughed and licked his hand where his beer overspilled a few drops. Come to keep you company, man. What else? he offered the beer. Want some?

Jade sat up and looked from the beer to Hunter. He wanted to believe the glint in his friends eyes was just his good humor, but he was still wary. Especially after what happened that last time. Jade pushed the drink away. No, Im not drinking again.

Oh, come on! Dont be a dipshit! Hunter pushed the can again. Its just me an you here. Aint no one else coming in. And its just ONE beer. Youre not going to get drunk on ONE beer, Jadey wadey. He tilted the can temptingly from side to side.

Old Satan himself. Jade muttered, ignoring the beer. What the hell you doing here, anyway? Thought you were trying to score?

Hunter snorted. Not my caliber, really. She was too slutty for my tastes.

Jade smiled. Slapped you, didnt she?

Hunter paused, then nodded, looking away as he did. Jade was the only one he admitted these things to. They were players. And players trusted only themselves and other players, not the hoes they hustled and banged.

Jade patted him on the shoulder. Thats okay, Hunt. Youll get em next time.

Hunter chocked on his beer slightly. He couldnt help grinning. Man, fuck you! he brushed off Jades hand, then grew serious. What are YOU doing in here? Hiding?

Jades turn to look away. He shrugged with one shoulder. Maybe. Not really. Just figured this was one of the places I should be to get away for a bit. Not much going on outside. The girls are. . . and then theres the beer. . . he sighed. And there isnt even good enough music to dance to. And not enough people to dance with.

Hunter grinned. If you want, I can sing for you and you can dance here. He chuckled at the face Jade made.

Oh, God no! Jade pleaded. Too late. Hunter stood on his knees on the bed and struck a John Travolta Special pose.

Owa, owa! Hunter cried out, tone high-pitched and reminiscent of the disco era. Everyone git down tonight! Owa, owa! Owa, owa! Git DOWN tonight!

Jade, despite the horror of the image and sound, burst with laughter, falling to the bed helplessly. Oh God, oh GOD! His face turned red and his hands clutched his cramping stomach.

Hunter grinned and watched Jade writhing with glee. This was always a good thing to see. He liked making Jade laugh. He liked to see his friend smile. Hell, it just made Hunter feel like the shit, knowing at least ONE person thought he was funny. And not just funny LOOKING.

Hunter sipped his warm beer and continued to watch Jade calm down. Jade took great gulps of air and succeeded in not dying of asphyxiation. At least for the moment. He looked up and spotted Hunter watching him closely.

His wide smiled turned to a grin, then a smirk. He sat up, glancing at the beer Hunter held out to him yet again. Its just one. Hunter said softly. And its just me. I know you want some, Jade. Its just a matter of learning how to control it. he paused, then said what he thought his friend wanted to hear.

Jade, I wont take advantage of you. he said softly. He saw Jade lose the smile and turn his face to stone. Hunter went on. I dont want to screw you.

Jade paused. He looked at Hunter closely, then snatched the beer away from him and took a swig. His eyes never left Hunters. He handed his beer back. You dont? Neither do I.

Hunter smiled gently and nodded, taking another drink. There were two left, he weighed. Enough for one more each, then no more. He was determined to stick this one out with Jade. For his friend.

Good. Hunter said, then handed the can back.

Jade drank. Good. he agreed, then handed it over.

Hunter drank, emptying the contents, then crushed the sides in with one fist and tossed it carelessly over his shoulder. Good. We both dont wanna screw each other.

Right. Jade nodded, smiling. This felt good. Everything out in the open. It felt nice.

Right. Hunter said. They waited a moment, then looked away, both unable to think of anything else to say. Hunter licked his lips absently and Jade picked at the dirt under his thumbnail.

Five minutes passed and complete boredom overcame the two.

Jade finally gave a loud sigh. Hunt, you wanna just make out?

Hunter, surprisingly not surprised, quickly nodded. Yeah. Thats cool.

They met halfway, lips colliding with lips, hands roaming over places only eyes previously roamed. Hunter actually had his hands under Jades shirt and was searching blissfully when Jade took control and threw himself on his friend.

But, Jade said around their nonstop kissing, this means nothing.

Yeah, Hunter agreed whole-heartedly, nothing.

Im not gay.

Me either.

And were still friends.

With benefits.

No! Jade scowled, pulling back.

Hunter went after him, licking the base of his neck. Yes! A few more minutes of his working Jade over and his friend gave in.

Yes. Jade agreed breathlessly. He began pulling off Hunters shirt, then changed his mind halfway and began kissing his stomach. Hunter, shirt still over his head, groaned and arched underneath Jades lips.

Damn, Hunter muttered, freeing himself from his own shirt and rushing to do the same to Jade, why the hell didnt we do this earlier?

Cause, Jade said, reaching for Hunters fly but was interrupted as Hunter tossed him off and moved to straddle him, were too stupid.

Heh, Hunter grunted, smiling down at his soon to be lover, just goes to show. Beer will set you free.

Jade grimaced. Ugh! Shut up and get that mouth working!

Hunter laughed. Your wish is my command! and went at it.

*********************

Brian was thankful to get the call. It took him away from Jade, someone who was getting to be just a tad bit annoying.

Hello? he asked, making his way to the side fence.

Sparrow, its Falcon. Sparrow, do you copy? Brian rolled his eyes. Fucking Stefan. . .

Stef, cut out the shit. Whats up?

There was a disapproving tsk, tsk on the other end. Now, now, Stefan said, smile heard through his tone, youre not playing the way youre supposed to, you fucking Nancy boy. Whats the fucking password?

Brian looked around to make sure he wasnt being overheard, then faced the fence for good measure. Take a fucking stick and shove it up yer faggot arse, Stef! Dont bullshit me with fucking passwords, you stupid fucking

Whoa! Whoa! Stefan chuckled. Calm it down, my little dove. Whats up? Whats got your thong all an twisted like?

Brian sighed and leaned against the fence. Nothing. Is Steven there? Or are you just messing with the phone while hes taking a shit?

What? Stefan sounded hurt, Steve, taking a , GASP, shit? How crude, my masturbating fuck bunny. Laughter in the background. No, as a matter of fact, Steve is right here. He wanted me to call and see how our little project is going. Hows the little flower?

Brian glanced around and saw that Jade was currently occupied with Hunter. He turned back to face the fence, fingers trailing the grains and veins of wood. Something happened. He began telling what happened, but Stefan wisely stopped him.

Wait, he said, accent thickening in his excitement, Im putting you on speaker.

Okay? Brian asked after a loud click.

Go ahead, Bri. This was Steven.

So Brian told them all he could. Everything from finding Davey on the floor, huddled and rocking back and forth, to having been dragged out of the room by Jade.

When he was finished, he waited. When there was no talking, He cleared his throat softly. Steve?

Still here, cher. he mused softly, thoughtfully.

What does this mean? Brian asked. Whats going on that no ones saying?

There was the faint sound of papers shuffling and chairs creaking. Hang on, luv, Steve said, I think I got it here. more papers shuffling, then he made a whistling sound. Thought that bit sounded familiar. Listen, Brian.

Brian shifted and peered about nervously, making sure no one was watching, let alone hearing. Go on.

This is from the old police files. About the scene where they took little Daveys parents in. If this is the right one, OUR one, then it fights. The father and the mother were subdued. The father put up a fight, but the mum even worse. Smashed shot glasses at about three officers, injuring two, looks like, before they could lock her up. The crazy bitch fucking ATTACKED police officers. With glasses no less!

Okay, Brian frowned slightly. His mind was working, but before he jumped to conclusions, he had to hear it from Steve, first. And that relates. . .?

Steve shuffled more papers. Brian could almost picture him at headquarters, elbows resting on the desk, pencil over his ear and his thinking expression on. Well, here, in the social workers paper work, it says little Davey was taken back to the house to retrieve the phone number of his aunt. My guess is that the Davey youve got there is the same as the Little Davey that went missing that day, years ago. Had himself a bloody flashback or two. Couldnt cope with the sight of glass on the floor. Mustve been hell seeing that.

Brian nodded, then realized Steve couldnt see him. Yeah, yeah, I think that sounds about right. he sighed heavily. Dammit! And I was just about getting to like the little bugger.

Steve chuckled. Well, maybe if things work out, we wont have to kill him. At least, not so soon.

Brian snorted a laugh. And you think SHELL let me have my fucking way with him?

Fucking is so right. Stefan said. Brian could hear the leer on his lips. Dont worry, princess, Ill see that youre not lonely tonight. Ill warm your pretty sheets for you.

Brian smiled, rolling his eyes. I missed you too, my luv. he made kissing noises to satisfy Stefan, making him laugh. Then he got serious again. Steve, whats the plan.

Hang on, hang on! Steve growled. Apparently he had been trying to come up with the solution while they played.

Come on now, Brian smiled faintly, youre the brains of this outfit. You should have at least TWO extra back up plans for something like this.

Silence. A chair creaked and groaned on the other end. Not after we fucked up in Ireland. Steve said quietly. After that, she hasnt trusted me to get her a fucking coffee.

Brians lips twisted, smearing a bit of his lipstick. Dont you go thinking about that, Steve-O.

Dont call me that. He said disgustedly. That fucker. . .

Brian smiled. Still, you shouldnt worry. This time, weve finally got him. Shell be so fucking happy shell probably shit her panties. After tonight, Steve, she wont be able to do anything but kiss your arse blue.

Steve and Stefan laughed in disgust at the picture Brian sent them. Thats crude, bunny, Stefan said.

Thanks, Steven said. And I think that this time wed better call in the big dogs. If were this sure of who he is, wed best not try to bring him in by ourselves. Well have to get back up. About fifteen Peeps, should do, I think. And Ill have to tell her.

Brian froze, expression worried. Are you sure? he asked at last.

A sigh, tired and weary. Yes. No. Bri. . . I dont know. Yeah, it could be a fuck-up like Ireland, like last time when we thought we saw him down that alley. But if we dont say anything. . .

Then we tell someone else. Stefan cut in. We tell someone else, some wanker over us, and let THEM decide whether or not they tell her.

Brian nodded, then scowled. Telephone, Bri, telephone. Yeah, I agree, Steve. Tell that shit-kicker trailer trash bitch. That new one. Shell get stuck with the decision, not us.

Steve paused, then said, Yes, yes, I think thats our only choice. Unless we get positive confirmation, then thats all we can do. It IS the right Adam, anyway. Who would have thought Davey would come back?

Brian smiled. Not her. Or else she would have sent us here YEARS ago. They shared a bit of silence, where each felt the others smiling. Alright, Steve, set it up, Brian said, and call back within five minutes and tell me when to expect you. This is a party, after all. Theres no telling whatll happen if something goes wrong.

**********************

Our time traversing done, we return to the present. . .

*********************

Davey and Adam look around. They take in the muted stereo, still on but beats and rock tunes turned down to a mere whisper; the cups, cans and bottles of liquor dropped and spilled about carelessly or recklessly. Almost as if there had been something exciting and everyone dropped their drinks in a hurry to go see it.

Davey looked down at his feet and saw a black Sketcher laying on its side. He blinked at this, confusion setting in. Then Adam cursed. He looked up and felt the need to curse, also.

They had been in Jades room too long, he saw. For several hours, indeed, in order for all this to have happened. He cursed his sudden collapse into the past, the reason why he hadnt known about any of this. Adam felt his guilt and self-degradation. He reached over without looking and took up Daveys hand again, giving it a reassuring squeeze.

Across the lawn, nice neat and orderly, lay the bodies of every single one of the party goers. Davey and Adam saw their friends, some strangers, the women, and others. They didnt see Jade or Hunter and somehow overlooked this fact. The bodies lay elbow to elbow, side to side in two rows. They watched in desperation until they saw several chests rise and fall. They were still alive. Thanks gods, they were still alive.

But the most frightening part was what was next to these rows. No less than twenty black-clad men in women stood about the table and chairs where the stereo sat. The three figures sitting on the chairs facing the doorway Adam and Davey stood in silently watched their expressions.

Shit. Davey gave a small, whimpering whine, barely audible.

The woman in red smiled and moved her feathered fan back and forth. The man in the dark blue suit grunted and folded his arms over his chest as he sat back. In between them, the woman in grey clasped her hands over her knee and smiled at Davey.

Hello, nephew.

Daveys grip on Adams hand tightened. Hello, Aunt. He managed, voice shaky. Adams eyes looked Daveys aunt over thoroughly, trying very hard to calm himself and Davey as well.

How. . . Davey gulped and tried again. Howd you find me?

The woman didnt even pause. She smiled and pushed a silver lock of hair away from her brow. Of course, we made sure to keep at least a few eyes on little Adam here. She looked him over, smile widening, though, of course, hes not so little any more, is he? Hello, Adam. So nice to meet you, finally.

Adam managed a quick jerk of his head, for politeness sake, however still scowling deeply.

The woman laughed softly. Ah, but not to worry, my dears. This will only take a few minutes, then well leave with what we came for.

Adam moved quickly and stood in front of Davey protectively. Like hell you will. he spat out through gritted teeth. Behind him, Davey whimpered and gripped his shoulders tightly in warning that Adam ignored. Youve got ten minutes for you and your people to get the fuck off my property before I call the fucking police. Daveys not going anywhere.

The woman listened carefully to his demands, eyebrows arching with interest. But the worst was Scarlett. She fluttered her red, feathered fan and simply laughed. Adam noticed the lines around her mouth and eyes had deepened with age and he was more than certain that her hair color came out of a bottle.

Adam said nothing. He just stood there and waited. He told them what he wanted, now it was up to them to do it.

The woman in grey shifted to peer over Adams shoulder. I think its time to go, dont you, dear? I think Adams a little angry at all the unexpected guests hes had tonight. We should leave him to his party. What do you say, Davey dearest?

Davey paused, then began moving around Adam. Seeing this, Adam grabbed him and pulled him back. What the fuck are you doing? He demanded, face inches away from Daveys.

Daveys eyes were sad but pleading. Im sorry, Adam, I really am. Im sorry, I love you, you know that. Our love cant be broken, but your mind can be. I dont want to see you get hurt. You or anyone else. He began moving away. Adam stopped him again. He was getting desperate.

No! You cant! You cant just leave me!

Davey stopped and moved back up to Adam. Do you see them? he whispered softly, voice urgent, those people in black? Do you see our friends on the ground? Sleeping? Theyre Peeps; telepaths. Only two of them are enough to put all those people to sleep. She brought them because she knew about us. Us together.

Adam shook his head in refusal. But the way his lips pouted slightly and the way his eyes began to water showed he knew it was over. Im stronger. He insisted. I can distracted them, then well. . .well. . . well leave! Well take the car and drive somewhere where they cant find us. God! Davey! Dont do this! Dont leave me!

Now Daveys lips trembled and tears ran down his face. I have to, Adam. I dont want them to hurt you. Please, just let me go. Just let me. he whispered his last plea.

The woman in grey watched, expression going harder and harder. Things werent going as planned. This is taking too long. she muttered.

Scarlett heard and turned to the nearest Peep. She gave him a nod. He nodded back and raised his hands. Together, his troop gathered their forces, and as one, began attacking Adam Carsons mind.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! Adam cried out as indescribable pain hit him and sent him to the ground in anguish. He screamed, clutching the sides of his head, unable to comprehend what was going on.

ADAM! Davey cried out, then froze. His eyes widened. As if pulled by strings, he turned on his heel and began walking toward the table and its three occupants.

His aunt smiled widely. Davey! So good of you to come to your senses! She smiled, despite the tormented wails of Adam as he writhed on the ground, nearly at the brink of insanity.

Brian, Stefan and Steven stood near the gate to the front yard. Steve and Stefan shuddered. God, Stefan whispered, his screamings going to haunt me forever!

Steven growled. I know what hes going through! I went through it when I went through the fucking training!

Brian, however, uncrossed his arms. He watched in horror as Davey turned and began walking toward their boss. Its. . . hes. . . no. He whispered harshly, no! He cant! Adam. . . Daveys. . . he grit and bared his teeth. Guys, this shouldnt be happening.

Steve and Stefan shared a glance. Youre talking mutiny, Bri. Stefan spoke in his ear, even I know thats. . . bad. REAL bad.

Brian nodded, not taking his eyes off the manic figure on the ground. I know. But I cant let this go on like it is. I HAVE to do something, even if Im the cause of WHY its happening.

Steven paused, then smiled. Alright, luv, Im game. Lead the way.
