| April 21, 2004 - I remember being five years old. It was 7:15 a.m. on a cool overcast day in South Carolina, and I was about to go to school. I was in that mindset, I had that burning inside of me, that excitement that I was about to go to a place where I'd be shown how to live, become a grown-up, learn what it takes to make my life a success. I am leaving, now. I have been shown only how I will not succeed, how I'm not going to make it. I learned my life sciences, how to add, subtract, write, and read. I know other countries by name and stories about them. It's more than people in some of those countries can say. It is not enough here, in America. School is nothing but a pre-assorting of the successful and the non-successful. A determinant of who will support society, and who will represent it. We will look in a sewer system one day to find a friend from day-care among a group of six or eight other men, your best friend who didn't care that you were nerdy, who sat with you anyway--you will find that childhood comrade festering in the raw sewage you flushed down your ceramic throne from your 19th-story condominium. And I hope you recognize him, 'cause he'll recognize you. He'll remember what you two used to be like before you were shown that he was a lesser man. Because he didn't receive a good "education." He's down there repairing pipes so that you can have an American luxury, and move on with your life to forget about him. I have been taught separation. I have been taught right from wrong. I have been taught wrong from wrong, and two or three different versions of right--or should I say, White? If this brief update flows nicely, thank my education. If you think this anecdote is radical, blame my ignorance. And please, value and respect a good education, but DO NOT respect the institution you receive it from. A good analogy is this...the school teaches us a lot of correct facts, quadratic equations, dates, and places; but it is not always right when it strays from its purpose. The bible is truth for Christians, but it is not always correct. Everything is up to interpretation in any case, and where the bible strays from its strength in ideology, it lacks in its facts, because those are what must be interpreted. One translation claims Moses to have horns. Everyone knows it isn't true, but translation says that's what they are, one interpretation claims it is so, so now, who really knows what is right when one thing can not be proven wrong against the next? ---------I am not having an excellent evening, and my glorious plans to update went to shit, as it is now 12:45 a.m. and I still need a fucking shower, eat dinner, and jerk off. Update tomorrow, probably. Sorry kids. Oh, and by the way...does....this.....OFFEND anyone? |
