To whom did the government turn to when Hurricane Hugo hit Charleston? To whom did the nation turn to after 911? Who is not screaming "separation of church and state" (which is not even a law or in the Constitution) when a crisis breaks out? Who had the guts to turn down millions of dollars when the strings attached were that they would have to hire those who were avowed and unrepenting sinners, including gays, etc? The Salvation Army USA, of course, one of the few Christian groups that practices what Jesus preached and did. Jesus was in the community more than he was in the churches of his time. The Salvation Army is in the streets with us sinners, "saved" and otherwise, more than most denominations.
