| [NOTE: It should be said here that the name of an area or place can determine its age. In the days of old, when the human language was simply little more than easy Elvish, Humans gave such names to places, and after the Great Bleed, when the Elves were destroyed, and having no foundation for their language, the Human tongue began to evolve, there are several different dialects throughout Yetera, but the only true difference is between the three areas of jurisdiction, the Aer-Tial, the Matroi, and the southern river folk, who even amongst themselves have no true unified language. In summarization, areas named early (such as Caerton) have more Elvish sounding names than the ones in the modern tongue (like Bright Ridge). A pronunciation guide is provided next to words in the old tongue.
] Aer-Tial [air-shee-all] Jurisdiction- Umbrella term for human settlements that fall under the protection of the Aer-Tial military. Before it was more of a confederation, but under Coruva, the Aer-Tial has become more of a domestic police force than a protectorate army, thus making this area of jurisdiction more of an empire. Occasionally, small villages and towns that did not pledge loyalty and request protection are added on the list, usually for exploitation. Bright Ridge- A small city just several leagues south of Shimmer Peak and Whiterock. It becomes the main hub of activity of the Aer-Tial and the home base area for the first march against the Howlers. Bright Ridge is considered to be the largest city of Yetera to those in the eastern mountains, or at least those who have not traveled to the cities of the plains like Caerton and Emho. Caerton [care-tun]- An almost capital of the East, Caerton was founded during the first age, when Humans were still exploring in all directions. A small group of settlers, who instead of creating a new town at the nearest available spot, traveled on foot as far as they could go. They passed clear through Elvish territory until they hit the Undai river, and impassable barrier on foot. Caerton and the settlements along the river were thought to be a new Elven empire when the Aer-Tial reached it during the Great Bleed. Caerton was the lure to draw out all of the Aer-Tials power, and was completely decimated by the Howlers. Emho- [em-hoe] Capital city of the central band in Yetera, the area of the Aer-Tial jurisdiction. The first true human settlement, founded by three separate clans, the Gur, Ura, and Ohin families. An agreement was reached; the next child born would be monarch, and it so happened to be a girl, born to the Ura family. At age 16, Daelia ti-Gurahin, given a new name, so no family would have rule, became queen. Other clans joined the settlement, and it became a true town. Several generations afterward, political turmoil took the city, and Humans began to emigrate outside the city, but remained close by. Many Humans, even if they have not been born there, or even if they havent even SEEN the city, still consider it as home. Maeos [mai-ose]- Also known as The Shadow Plain, this land is another magical plain, existing side by side with Yetera. Little is known about Maeos (so far) except for the fact that it is the home of the Howlers. Matros [mat-trose] Em (city)- Capital city of Matros Em, founded 600 years ago. Originally the site of a female-supremacist cult, the fires of rebellion and insurrection died out with youth, and the cult gradually changed into a city, surrounding the main temple, which still stands today. Still matriarchal, and even though it is burgeoning with enlightenment and scientific progress, it is here that males face the most suppressive discrimination, as opposed to the outlying settlements, where there are so few people, men proved themselves worthy of having an equal share in the creation of the villages and towns, but in Matros Em (sometimes referred to as Matros Prime, its approximate translation, to avoid confusion with the empire rather than the city) men are still un-needed, and no value can be seen from them. Matros [mat-trose] Em (empire)- The area of Yetera falling under the rule of the Matroi, which also shares the name of the capital city. This area lies almost 100 leagues north of the Bright Ridge hub, beyond the mountain ranges. Formed almost 600 years ago from a cult into a nation, it is a matriarchal society with women in positions of power. Recently, a movement began to raise males from second class citizens to a place equal to status with women. A counter movement ensued, and so the state is in a period of deep political unrest. The Mens Rights movement would have died in its infancy but the support of Tiela has kept it alive and viable. Shimmer Peak- Hometown of Kitt and Jublis, and also the birthplace of Jublis. A tiny community that sustains itself on a stone quarry plentiful also in deposits of copper. Total population: about 35. The closest settlement is Whiterock. Whiterock- A small village with a population of almost 300, it is the closest settlement to Shimmer Peak, and is similar in many respects. Other than this little is known. Yetera [yet-ur-ah]- The magical plain on which the majority of the story takes place. The Yeterian Plain is almost entirely Human, the Elves and most of the Dwarves exterminated during the Great Bleed by Minatdor. Yetera has three areas of jurisdiction, almost nations but not quite, excepting the Matroi. The Aer-Tial inhabit the central belt of the plain. The third area is the deep southeast, where the river folk reside, named so for they have no homes generally, but navigate the long winding estuaries and deltas in the south. They are hardly a unified entity and mostly ignored by the outside world. Yetera is bordered by Maeos. |
