| So what exactly does the Link do? asked Kitt. Vekia smiled inwardly, his curiousity never ceased to baffle her. How could a single boy want to know so much and yet still ask more, while retaining all he had learned? She was hardly more skilled in that art herself (and had had two millennia to practice).
The weapon and the warrior share the same essence, she explained. In a way, the weapon almost develops a mind on its own. It almost read your, she paused, trying to figure out a way to explain it, not so much your mind, but your sub-consciousness, your intent is a better way to put it. You believed you would cut the pole, so the weapon almost extended itself with your spirit energy, forming a sort of spirit blade. Usually, the Link only enhances fighting ability, making you more apt at blocking and striking. But you have had training as a mage, which will make your link that much more powerful, she concluded. The confusion on Kitts face gave way for understanding, So, in a way, it makes me some kind of great warrior. He grinned, a thought entering his mind, he considered whether or not to say it, for it was seemingly childish, but he decided to anyway, Jublis would be furious if he found out. Yes, Vekia smiled, he probably would be. Oh Kitt, she thought, there is still so much for you to learn, so much I want to teach you. If only you had not tried to hide your power. She looked longingly at Kitt, at the greatness which he may have become. But then, she took a small comfort in the fact he would yet be great, in his own way, even if not the path she had tried to place him on. But there is such a thing as free will. His path was destined to reach this convergence, and she could not stay in the way of that destiny. But one thing she was sure of was that Kitt would be a powerful force for good. She didnt know how exactly, but it was going to be a great way. Well Kitt, the hour is late, I have kept you long enough, and you will need your rest. No master, Kitt corrected her, it is I who has kept you long enough, but yes, I will be going now. As Vekia led Kitt up the stairs, a strange curiosity overtook the boy; something was worrying him, dark in a way. Master, what will you do when Im gone? The pair reached the top of the stairs and entered Vekias parlor. She turned to look at him, and placed her hands on his shoulders, Oh Kitt, do not worry, I will make myself busy. Eventually, I may head out west again. I am not sure. Kitt looked at her hopefully, Will you remain here until after the war at least? Perhaps I could finish my training when I return, he suggested. The old yet young sorceress smiled at him, No Kitt, she said as her eyes began to well up with tears, your path lies in your own destiny. You will have no need to come back here. Perhaps you will become that legendary warrior you once dreamed of being. She shook her head, You have no need of my training anymore. Good luck on your journey, my young friend. She hugged him; he truly was no longer an apprentice in magic. Look after Jublis, he does not even know of the outside world, let alone understand it, yes? Kitt returned the embrace, Dont worry I will. And I will watch after myself. They parted, and Vekia, the tears no longer being held back, but flowing. She barely managed to whisper choked words through her throat, I am sure you will be fine. And you will be too, goodbye, said Kitt. A small tear formed in his eye, and he made haste to exit the house before Vekia would notice it. As Kitt headed down the road back to the village, Vekia stood in the doorway, watching him go, So I was correct. |
