Max Evans sat alone on his doorstep, thinking about what he had just seen.  Had he truly just seen Liz, his Liz Parker, in a bed with Kyle?  It had to have been true.  The picture of them laughing together was still embedded in his mind.  The picture of her milky-white legs and smooth shoulders was still clear in his mind - as well as how happy she looked as she laughed with Kyle.  Happy - had Liz ever really truly been happy with him?
But he couldn't just sit here on his butt.  He had to do something.  He decided right then and there that he was going to go see Liz - Kyle or no Kyle - and he was going to get his answers.

***Meanwhile***
"Thanks Kyle....for everything," Liz said as she stood in the open doorway to the Crashdown.
"You're welcome Liz.  Look, if you ever need anything, and I mean anything, just let me know and I'll do what I can," Kyle said.
"I know," Liz said, hugging Kyle.  "Thanks Kyle.  Good night."
"Sweet dreams," Kyle said, smiling as he walked away.  "Good night."
Liz sighed as she went upstairs to her room.  She still had her robe on.  Liz took off her robe and hung it on the back of her door.  She walked over to her bed with nothing but her underwear on and got underneath her covers, completely unknowing that Max was climbing was her ladder.

Max swung himself over the edge of Liz's balcony.  He hoped against hope that Kyle wouldn't be there.  When he looked into Liz's room and saw her alone in her bed, he sighed with relief.  But just in case, he decided to wait and see if Kyle was still there.  He sat against the windowsill so that he could still see her sleeping.
She looks so peaceful, Max thought.  He readjusted against the window and sat and watched her sleep.

Liz jumped up as she woke herself up from her nightmare.  In her nightmare, she saw Max and Tess kiss outside of the Crashdown and then making love out in the desert in the same spot where she and Max had gone and found the orb.  She was shaking and sweating and she hadn't yet registered in her mind that Max had jumped into her room and had one hand on her back and stroking her hair.  Liz clung to his arm like she would never let him go.
"Liz, it's okay, I'm here," Max said, still stroking her hair.
"Oh my God, Max, I dreamed that you and Tess had...had...oh Max!" Liz said, throwing her hands around him and hugging him.
Max let her cry on his shoulder all she wanted.  "It's okay Liz.  It was just a dream.  It wasn't real," Max said, holding her close.
"Why are you here Max?" Liz asked, still crying.
"Well, I originally came here to get some answers but that can wait for another day....another time," Max said, taking her hand.
"No Max.  I don't want any secrets between us," Liz said, kissing him.  "Let me start.  Max - I love you.  I love you more than life itself.  And you have no idea how much it hurt for you to see me and Kyle like that.  But Max, you and Tess have to be together when and if your enemies come to Earth.  If you don't then...God know what'll happen.  That's why we did this.  You shouldn't love me Max, you should love Tess."
Max held Liz as she told him this and cried.  "Liz, I love Tess but it's the same way I love Isabel - as a sister.  There's no one in any universe that will replace you in my heart," Max said as he kissed her.  "I hated seeing you with Kyle.  I knew that you were mine and seeing you with him made me want to kill him and myself."
Liz felt Max's lips on hers and she wrapped her arms around him as Max deepened the kiss.  Before she knew it, she was lying on her back with Max on top of her.

***The Next Morning***
Liz nuzzled her head deeper into her pillow and realized that her pillow was harder than usual and it had a strange smell to it.  Well, not really strange because she had smelled it before.  She opened her eyes and realized that Max's chest had become her pillow.  Was she dreaming again?  She pinched herself three times before she accepted the fact that Max Evans was asleep in her bed...and with no clothes on.  Did last night really happen?

Max awoke, not recognizing the feel of the pillow he was sleeping on.  It was then that he saw the smooth back with long brown hair flowing down it that he remembered last night.  "Liz?" he called softly.
"Yeah Max?" she answered, holding the blanket closer to her naked chest.
"Did last night really happen?" Max asked, still staring at her back.
"I think it did," Liz answered.
"Do you regret it?" Max asked, sitting up and wrapping his arms around her tiny frame.
Liz sat there for a moment, not knowing what to say.  Future Max had just left her no less than 12 hours ago.  He had warned her that if they "cemented" their relationship then the world would end.  Yet she enjoyed it...a lot.  "No Max, I don't regret it," she said, turning around to him and kissed his soft lips gently.
"Liz, can I ask you something?" Max asked, pulling away.
"Sure Max," Liz said, already knowing what he was going to ask her.
"Last night, I didn't get any flashes.  It's like you were blocking me out or something.  Is there anything you want to tell me Liz?" Max asked.
"I told you everything last night Max," she said, grabbing the towel off the floor and wrapping it around herself.
"Then why did you block me out?" Max asked.  "Liz, it was still there so I know you and Kyle didn't sleep together.  And I know you told me that Tess and I had to be together when our enemies came to Earth but Tess and I will be together when our enemies come.  Did whoever told you this mean that we have to be together in a relationship way or just together?" Max asked.
"They didn't say," Liz said with no emotion present in her voice.
"Liz I feel like there's something you aren't telling me.  After what you and I shared last night, there shouldn't be any secrets between us.  What is it you're not telling me?" Max asked, laying one hand on her back.
"Max, I'm not on the pill and we didn't use protection," Liz said matter-of-factly.
"That's okay.  We'll get married before the baby comes, if you are pregnant of course, and I'll get a job to support us . . . ," Max began.
"Max, stop," Liz commanded, finally turning around to face him.
"What is it?  Did I do something wrong?" Max asked, still not removing his hand from her back.
"Max, I love you.  I love you more than anything in this entire world - yours and mine but Max you and Tess have to be together," Liz said, trying not to cry.
"Dammit Liz!  I don't want to be with Tess!" Max yelled, his hands going into the air as he stood up.  "Liz, I wouldn't have done what we did last night with Tess.  I have another person inside of me and he's trying to get out.  Trying to get me to be with her but Liz I don't want to.  I control my mind and my body and my feelings.  Liz, I love you and I want to be with you.  I told you last night that I love Tess only as a sister and nothing more."
"Do you really mean everything you've said to me Max or are you just saying it to make me feel better?" Liz asked, not sure if she truly wanted to know the answer.
Max took her head in both hands and kissed her gently.  "Liz, there's no way I can lie to you.  Everything I have told you is the honest to God truth."
"So if I do indeed get pregnant, you'll marry me and take care of the baby and me?" Liz asked, starting to cry tears of joy.
"Of course, Liz.  I love you and marrying you and having you have my children would be my dreams come true," Max said, kissing her gently and laying down on the bed with her craded in his arms.  It was then that Max thought about her having his child.  Would it show signs of being half alien?  Would his child be in danger?  But he realized that he shouldn't think such things now - he still had nine happy months to go.
