| A Time Yet To Come - Part One "I'm available for further experiments," Alex called to a smiling Isabel as she walked down his driveway. That was a great kiss! Isable thought as she got into her car. She waved to Alex as he went back inside his house. Once she knew he was completely inside, her smile disappeared. This was a new one. She not only saw Alex's past but his future as well. She closed her eyes and she couldn't stop the flashes from showing again. **Flash** "You look great Alex," Isabel said, climbing out of Liz's window. **Flash** "Isabel Evans, go to the prom with me?" Alex asked. Isabel smiled and hugged him tight, accepting the date. **Flash** "I'm gonna do something I said I wouldn't do," Isabel said, still dancing. "Don't do that," Alex lied. Isabel captured his lips with hers, not caring what anyone at the prom thought. **Flash** "It's wrong . . . It's all gone wrong," Alex said, handing the delivery guy back his receipt for his Thai food. **Flash** "You sent me to Las Cruzes to decode that stupid book for you and now there's nothing left for you to mind warp!" Alex yelled to Tess, trying to break free from her grip. **Flash** "No! No!" Alex cried before falling onto the floor, dead. **End Flash** "Alex!" Isabel screamed, waking herself up. She wiped her forehead and realized that she was sweating - a lot. She couldn't let Alex die! She just wouldn't let him go to Las Cruzes . . . or Sweden, like he told everyone. "I've got to get home," she said, starting her car. **Later That Day** "I'm telling you Max, what I saw was real!" Isabel said, pacing the floor of her brother's room. "I'm not doubting you Isabel. Well, actually I am doubting you about the future flashes. Tess - another alien? You know that we're the only ones alive from the cras. And Alex being killed? C'mon Isabel, you've got to admit, it's a little . . . out there," Max said, sitting on his bed. "I'm doubting the whole thing! It's all crazy! Both of you have flashes but I don't! So it all seems 'a little out there' to me," Michael said, sitting on the floor. "Oh shut up Michael. Simply because you only get flashes from objects doesn't mean that we can't get them from humans! Hell, you probably haven't even tried to get flashes from Maria. Well, maybe you have and neither of you want to show them," Isabel said, looking straight at Michael with her hands on her hips. "I'm outta here," Michael said, getting up and leaving through the window as Isabel returned to her pacing. "Okay Isabel, let's think about this logically. You know Alex has a pretty vivid imagination . . . ," Max began. "I know what I saw was real! Don't try to tell me it wasn't!" Isabel said, storming out of his room. Max jumped when he heard his door slam. He sighed as he reached over for the phone and dailed the familiar numbers for Liz's house. "Hello?" Liz answered. "Hi Liz, it's Max," Max said, smiling at her voice. "Hi Max, what's up?" Liz asked, smiling. "Something big - alien big," Max said. This is a new one, Liz thought. She knew that Max only told her about alien stuff if she wasn't going to get hurt or into trouble. Or she could be wrong. He did heal her in front of God and everybody in the Crashdown that day. "What is it?" she asked. "It's Alex and Isabel," Max replied. Alex and Isabel?! This was a new one, she thought. "What are you talking about Max?" Liz asked, now realizing that Max was truly worried about his sister. She hoped against hope that they hadn't pulled a Michael and Maria and sped out of town together. "Alex and Isabel kissed and they got flashes. Nothing wrong with that, right? Here's the weird part - Isabel saw his future and he dies! She said something a girl named Tess being an alien and killing him. She said that Alex goes to Las Cruzes but tells everyone he's going to Sweden!" Max said. "Max, you're rambling. First of all, we are getting a new girl at school named Tess - Tess Harding, I think is her name. And Alex did get an application to be an exchange student in Sweden. So she may be telling the truth," Liz said. "I just don't know Liz. I love my sister but this can't be real! You and I don't get future flashes!" Max said, getting defensive. "You don't dreamwalk! You can't cause things to go off. Simply because you don't do something doesn't mean that Michael or Isabel can't do it," Liz said smoothly. Max knew that she was right. "I know Liz but I still have my doubts," Max admitted. "Go to bed Max. Sleep on it and we'll talk about it tomorrow," Liz suggested. "Okay. Good night Liz. I love you and sweet dreams," Max said. "I love you too. Good night," Liz said, hanging up the phone. Max hung up his phone, all of his doubts still nagging at his mind. TBC . . . |
