BIRD ACTVITIES
Sensory
Feathers and sand.
Water table with toy ducks and other birds.
Large bowl of bird seed with measuring spoons and jars.
Eggshells and stone to crush.

Bird Math
Feather Sorting:
Place a variety of feathers on a table.
Encourage the children to sort by size, color or texture.
Bird Sorting:
Give children several pictures of birds and sort by
size, color or shape.
Cut several egg shapes out of poster board or cardboard and color.
Cut in half making a jagged line. On one half write a number between 1 and 10.
On the other make corresponding dots.
Have children match by number and dot.
Cut several egg shapes out of poster board or cardboard and color.

Bird Science
Grapefruit Cup Bird Feeders:
Place seeds in an empty grapefruit half.
Place the feeder in a place the children can observe.
Pinecone Feeders:
Collect pinecones on a walk.
Roll in peanut butter.
Roll in a tray of birdseed.
Tie yarn around the top in a loop.
These really attract the birds and can be redone
when the seed and peanut butter runs out.
Not to mention they look great in a tree.
Dramatic Play
The Bird House:
Take a large cardboard box big enough for 3 children to sit in.
Add some hay or blankets to the bottom.
Make beaks by cutting a triangle shape out of poster
and have kids decorate with pens.
Bend in the center from tip down to middle of bottom.
Attach elastic strings to each side.
Make wings by cutting flimsy material in large strips.
Tie to upper arm and wrist with another piece of material.
The reason I don't use poster for these is the chance of a child
getting poked in the eye.
Arts & Crafts
Feather Painting:
Place as many different kinds of feathers as you
can find on a table. Provide thin paper and thin paint.
Eggshell Collages:
Save and clean eggshells.
Dye different colors in containers children can gently mix.
Dry eggshells and crush into small pieces.
Glue to medium or thick paper.
Birdseed collages:
White glue.
Paint the glue on paper first and sprinkle seeds on glue.
Cut a large egg shape out of card board.
Have children trace around the shape then cut out the egg.
Provide light blue paint and sprinkle with sand to make Robin Eggs.
Bird Circle Games
Little Bird game:
One child is mother bird while others act out the story.
All the little birds are asleep in their nest.
All the little birds are taking a rest.
They do not even twitter, they do not even tweet.
Everything is quiet up and down the street.
Then came mother bird and tapped them one by one.

2 pieces of bread or bagels

Spread on bread.
