JAMAICANS UNITED AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY

Hi Friends,

I would like to share with you a letter from Yvonne Sobers about the visit of Pierre Sane to Jamaica. Pierre is the Secretary General of Amnesty International now focusing on human rights violations in the Caribbean and in particular police killings in Jamaica. I thought you might find it interesting.

We had our historic demonstration at the UN on September 7. Historic because this was the first time in New York City and probably anywhere else outside of Jamaica where there is a large contingent of Jamaicans that there was a Jamaican-led demonstration against a Jamaican government. We were of course trying to send a message to PJ Patterson that the government must act now to end  state practice   (government complicity) of police executions.

Our next step to show Patterson that we mean business is our Saturday October 14 rally at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. At that rally we will announce further steps to make this an international campaign.

Those of you in NY please be there to show your support.
