Here are some ideas that make the mouse cursor more useful by giving visual feedback to the user. Text (white or black which ever is more visible, in finder windows and desktop) appears showing following info:

Other ideas: path of file/folder, display the username of file owner, permissions (ex. drw-rw-r-w), date created, last modified etc...
