Visit of Jilin University Delegation
From November 7th to November 10th, 2002, the Jilin University
Delegation, headed by the Jilin University Vice President Mr. Zhang
Fuliang, visited Toronto. Other members of the delegation include Mr.
Li He, Vice President of Education Foundation, Mr. Wang Deshun,
Director of Teachers Resource Office, Mr. Tian Li, Director of Alumni
Office, and Mr. Sun Changzhi, Vice Director of Personnel Department.
This was the first delegation of Jilin University sent out to overseas
in history with the sole purpose of visiting our alumni in North
America.
About 60 Members of the Jilin University Alumni Association of Canada
(JUAAC) had a dinner with the delegation on November 9th in the Rich
Congee Chinese Restaurant in Toronto. Members of the JUAAC came from
the Great Toronto Area as well as from other parts of Canada including
Waterloo, Windsor, London and Ottawa. We were also very glad to see the
joining of alumni from the former Changchun University of Science and
Technology (Changchun Geology Institute), now also a part of Jilin
University. During the dinner, Mr. Zhang Fuliang, representing Jilin
University, first delivered a warm regards and best wishes to the
alumni of JUAAC and then made an information briefing about the current
situation of Jilin University. He invited our alumni to visit our home
university whenever it is possible hoping a closer tie to be set up
between alumni and Jida in the future. Mr. Wang Deshun from the
delegation introduced the current policy of Jida in recruiting
professors and research staff, wishing more alumni could contribute to
the development of Jilin University in various forms such as visiting
scholars, long term employment, financial donation or joint research
projects (Detailed information with regarding to the employment of
Jilin University is available from the board of JUAAC). On behalf of
the JUAAC, Mr. Liu Jijun extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He
called upon our alumni, as proud graduates of Jida, to make
achievements in our own specific fields in Canada so that Jida could be
proud of us.
The chat between our alumni and the delegation was hot and the
atmosphere enthusiastic. The meeting with the delegation led us into
the memories of those old good days when we were at Jida and those
classmates, professors and colleagues. Every alumnus felt excited and
happy in seeing the long-awaited delegation from our home university on
the other side of the earth. The food from the restaurant was delicious
and we enjoyed the wonderful night both spiritually and physically. At
the end of the dinner, the delegation presented a beautiful piece of
art made of jade as a gift to our JUAAC.
The Board of JUAAC thanks those alumni who participated in this
activity and those who helped to make it successful. Look forward to
seeing everyone in our next gather-together in the near future.
