Canada Day Celebration
Dear Alumni:
Several thousands of Chinese from different Chinese organizations
and communities including us, JUAAC, gathered together in Toronto
on July 1st, 2000 before the Monument of the Chinese railroad
workers in Canada to celebrate the first Canadian National Day
in the 21st century.
The celebration began with a memorial ceremony to commemorate the
Chinese railroad workers who were the first immigrants to Canada,
followed by a grand parade. The contingents of paraders lasted
several miles long. People were waving Canada flags, balloons,
and various signs while drums and gongs were beating and striking
boisterously.
The gala parade ended at Grange Park near China town where various
performances were held including solo, chorus, waist drums, hula
dancing, Beijing opera, and of course lion and dragon dances. The
celebration is full of excitement, enthusiasm and enjoyment, fully
showing the theme "I love Canada/Canada is my home".
The board of JUAAC takes this opportunity to express our thanks for
the participants of the celebration and support from our alumni.
Best wishes to you and have a great summer.
The Board of JUAAC
