"I feel like I am still in China"

This is the comments about our Chinese New Year's Party held on
Sunday, February 7, 1999 by one of our newest members of JUAAC.

As early as 11:30 a.m. on that day, our volunteers started
registering the attendees to our party. Because of the bigger
than expected turnout of our alumni to the luncheon party,
we had to ask the restaurant manager for another eight tables
reserved outside of the 45 seat banquet hall.

At about 12:25 p.m. when we started the party, total registrants
were 88, including 70 alumni and 18 family members. Some of the
alumni just arrived in Canada four days ago. In addition to those
from Greater Toronto Area, many came from Hamilton, Waterloo,
Guelph and other cities. 6 personnel from the Chinese Consulate
General were also in attendance at the party. Our alumni also
donated generously to JUAAC.

Vice President Secretary General, Ms. PEI Xiaozheng, presided the
brief meeting. President XU Xiangwu gave a short and cute new year
address to our alumni, family members, and guests. Executive Vice
President LIU Jijun briefed on the work of the Board since the
founding of JUAAC. Then Vice President ZHANG Xi and PEI Xiaozheng
commenced the Puzzle Quiz lively. Our alumni are smarter
than average, because of the 30 puzzles and quizzes prepared
carefully by the board members, only two were left unanswered.
The gifts we bought were barely enough for distribution to the
winners.

Alumni also introduced themselves to all the attendees in turns
during the lunch.

At the luncheon party, we were also informed that our home page
has been created by one of our vice presidents - GU Fenglong,
which will be ready for view very soon. It has been proposed at
the lunch, with great initiative from our alumnus PENG Ninghua,
a magazine, either quarterly or semi-annually, will be created
soon. We invite you to give a possible name for this magazine
within the next few weeks.

Members of the Board would like to express our thanks for your
support and enthusiasm to our own activities. Expect to hear
from you soon and see you in our next function in summer or fall!
