Summary of the discussion with my partner, Eon Young Chang
First, my partner and I looked at the two sites that we liked, Cafe Sevilla and Avril Lavigne
In our comparison we noticed these features of good web design in both sites.
It is easy to navigate.
In Cafe Sevilla site,they first divided categories into five big categories.And divided them again.So it`s very easy to navigate.
In Avril`s site, there are many informations. But the site is quite organized, and it`s really easy to find something in this site.
The design is appropriate.
In Cafe Sevilla site, black background color ,red and yellow colors are well combined, and they`re making special atmosphere.
Avril Lavin site`s main colors are also black, red and yellow. Those colors and the design of this site express Avril`s funky style.
It gives enough information.
Cafe sevilla has has enough informations about the restaurant, the bar, the ingredients for their food.
Avril Lavin site has many things about her: Video clips, musics, pictures, journals that She wrote by herself. Those lots of informations can make her fans satisfied. And it`s the goal of this site.
Second, we looked at the two sites that we did not like, Salsa crazy and Church Suit
In our comparison we noticed these problems.
It is difficult to navigate.
Sasa crazy site has too many categories. There are too many links disorganized in the main page. It`s not good to navigate.
Church suite site also has too many categories. It just bothers people and make them have difficulty in navigating.
The design is not appropriate.
Salsa Crazy shows us typical bad homepage design. First, the picture is too big. Second, all of the colors are too bright and make people don`t want to read the text.
Church Suit site use different back ground colors for each site. So it lacks unity.
It does not give enough information.
Church Suit site is for selling dresses. But there is no information about the product. It just shows the picture of the product. They don`t have an essential part.
Finally, we compared four sites. We found three features from good sites and three features from bad sites. The interesting thing was three out of four sites used similar colors; black, yellow and red. But two were successful, one was not so successful. The former two sites combined colors appropriately,used appropriate pictures and was quite organized, however the letter site used bright colors too much, had too big picture and it was not organized at all. So we realized the importance of organization and appropriate way to use the colors.
