A BioComplexity Measure

Key Conceptual Systems:

  • Embedded Nested Aggregate Dissipative Structures
  • Selective Systems
  • Implicate Order

Key Measures:

  • Microstates
  • Entropy
  • Integration
  • Mutual Information
  • Cluster Index
  • Complexity

NOTE: by the use of the term Somatic Selection I DO NOT mean the idea of Lamarckian Inheritance of Acquired Characters
ie. like the Lamarckian conceptions of selection put forward by E.J. Steele.

It is my feeling that the structural levels mediating the performance of each nested selective system are those levels at which a complexity measure must be made.

The problem then follows as to how to integrate the nested set of complexity measures so as to give a meaningful quantitative measure of overall complexity.
