Love sucks
photo

Let’s be honest, Valentine’s Day sucks if you’re single. It’s the day that society purportedly set aside to celebrate romance and love while telling us unattached individuals how worthless and unloved we are. No one to buy us flowers or chocolates (which I’m allergic to anyway) or even take us out to expensive restaurants, how sad we must feel to be left out once again.

But if you look around you, you’ll see that all this holiday is buying useless gifts. Seriously, how many women do you who are not on a diet (or claim to be on one)? Go ahead, give them one of those ninety-nine cent cards and see what happens. Besides, when did Hallmark\FTD get to decide how much we love each other?

I did some research for this post (before the storm hit) and found that these sentiments are expressed with various degrees of bitterness or regret all across the net (but mostly bitterness). But so far, no real protest holiday has emerged to replace it. Sure, The Hurricane has been promoting Quirky Alone Day for the past two years, but it hasn’t been nearly as successful as Buy Nothing Day is for Black Friday.

Perhaps I am over-reacting, but I shouldn’t have to feel bad for not receiving hearts and flowers. Also just because I have no "friends" on MySpace (or on 360! for that matter), doesn’t make me any less of a person either.
