Valentine's Day storm: Part 1

9:30am – There is a light dusting of snow on the ground. Most schools have either cancelled classes or have begun announced early dismissals.

Noon – Some of the snow from this morning has melted despite a few passing flurries. None of the snow from those flurries appears to be sticking, at least so far. Also news reports continue to disagree on how much accumulation we’ll receive from this “complex storm.”

3:00pm – Snow is beginning to fall heavier now. I should probably start shoveling now while it’s relatively light.

4:15pm – All trace of the path I cut through the snow an hour ago is gone. Meanwhile, I have seen the neighborhood kids out shoveling their respective sidewalks, and the church across the street has already started up its snow blower. Curiously, I have not seen one plow truck come through here yet.

5:30pm – Having put it off long enough, I grab the shovel from the entry and head downstairs. I open the door and find that someone had already cut a narrow path through the snow in front of my building. I don’t know who did it (as I’m the only person living in this building), but I am grateful for the gesture.
