Fantasy In Lights History

Callaway Gardens co-founder Virginia Callaway had always expressed the desire to incorporate Christmas lights into the Gardens similar to the ones that she enjoyed as a little girl on the lawns in her hometown of Pelham, Georgia.

Over the years, her ideas began to take shape, and in 1992 Callaway Gardens opened Fantasy In Lights, the first major holiday light show in Georgia and one of the largest in the world.

Different from Other Shows

Fantasy In Lights is different from any other light show in many ways. The scenes, all custom designed, are larger-than-life and each one has a dedicated sound system that plays musical arrangements tailored for the scene. The show is situated along a five-mile drive through the woodlands and is designed to enhance the natural setting.

Seeing the incredible success of Fantasy In Lights, many other organizations have since opened their own light show, but none can rival the magnitude and uniqueness of Fantasy In Lights. Now in its tenth year, this show has become a holiday tradition in the South and continues to outshine all other light shows.

Addition of Scenes

In 1992, the show opened with March of the Toy Soldiers, Magical Christmas Garden, Snowflake Valley, Twin Trees and FIL the Frog. In pursuing years the show continued to grow.

1993: The Nativity, Firefly Cove, Swan Lake, Christmas Tree Lane
1994: The Twleve Days of Christmas, Nature\'s Wonderland
1995: The Night Before Christmas
1996: Santa\'s Workshop and Skating Party
2000: Enchanted Rainbow Forest

Other changes through the years included moving the Christmas Village from the Beach Pavilion to the heated beach dome in 1993. In 1994 the annual March of Dimes Night Walk was introduced.

Bigger and Brighter

Every year, Fantasy In Lights shines bigger and brighter. Since it opened in 1992, Fantasy In Lights has brought holiday cheer to almost two million people!
