Another group that's a hold-over from the 80's, admittedly, but still a favorite. Scully and I were trying to remember how the hell it was that we both ended up with every Dokken album available (and I do mean album, as in pressed vinyl. If you're not old enough to remember vinyl records, go ask your mom about them.) Anyway, neither of us could remember. That's an age thing, according to my brother, he claims once you hit 30 it's all downhill from there. Everything starts to go. Nice uplifting philosophy, don't you think?
Okay, the album. I'm not a huge fan of greatest hits albums, mostly because my favorite cuts off a given album usually aren't the ones that are the most comercially saleable. This one, though, hit the mark pretty well. I liked the fact that there was a cut off Don Dokken's first solo album too, since it's also a great album. The Very Best Of Dokken encompasses a lot of fond party memories, and I've always been partial to Don's voice.
On a semi-unrelated note, not in my top ten but still well worth a listen is the newest Dokken release, 'Erase The Slate'. It features ex-Winger guitarist Reb Beach, who stepped in to fill the void(?) left by the departure of George Lynch, and it's likely the best thing Dokken has had to offer since Back For The Attack. It rocks. |
