Oliver Wendell Douglas was a successful attorney at law. He moved with his wife Lisa to "the old Haney place" and re-named it Green Acres after buying it from the charlatan Haney. Oliver always wanted a farm, and he even started growing a farm on his penthouse terrace in New York altho his farming skills are somewhat lacking. Lisa Douglas, Oliver's wife, was totally opposed to moving to Green Acres, not wanting to give up the luxuries she enjoyed in New York including basics such as electricity and phone which Oliver later had installed with much trouble. Lisa learned to cook at Green Acres, or what passed for cooking, making almost anything u could imagine with hotcakes batter.
Eb is Mr. Douglas' hired hand. He has a talent for stating the obvious and for getting on Oliver's nerves. Mr. Haney is the local con man who seems to have everything Oliver ever seems to need, altho in much shabbier condition than how it is portrayed and mostly seems to break down, especially the worst being the Hoyt-Clagwell tractor that is always having problems.
Sam Drucker is the General Store owner (which is apparently the only store in Hooterville) as well as being local postmaster. Hank Kimbal is the local county agent for the department of Agriculture. Mr. Douglas continually comes to him for advice, even tho mostly the advice that Mr. Kimbal gives isn't exactly that helpful...well i wouldn't say not that helpful...it is a little helpful...well not a little helpful either it's not that helpful at all...but some of the time it is helpful...
Fred Ziffel looks in every way to be the stereotypical farmer with his overalls and flannel shirt. He absolutely loves his pig Arnold. The Ziffels close by to the Douglas' farm. Doris Ziffel is Fred's wife. At times she thinks Fred loves Arnold more than he loves her. She is always true to her Fred and Arnold.
Arnold Ziffel is the Ziffel's "son". He is very intelligent for a pig and everyone in Hooterville can translate his grunts and snorts except for Oliver. Arnold can also turn on the television by himself and watching tv is his favorite thing to do. Eunice Douglas is Oliver's mom. She is extremely sympathetic with poor Lisa for being dragged away from New York to live at the rundown farm.
Alf One half of the Monroe Brothers construction company who specialize in re-hanging doors and making chicken coops. Oliver eventually has to hire them to expand his bedroom after the Monroe Bros had already started enlarging it. Some noticable problems Oliver finds with the building include a brickless fireplace (nothing but a hole leading to the outside) and the back of their closet has no back to it, but is consistently used more as a door to the outside. Ralph is the other half of the bungling "Monroe Brothers". Another problem with the "expanded" bedroom is that whenever the sliding closet door is opened, it slides right off the track and falls onto the floor.
Joe Carson hangs around Mr. Drucker's General Store usually trying to get something free from Sam or getting another customer to buy it for him.
