Her appearance was inevitable
Her knockings were constant
Knock, knock!
Knock, knock!

A visitor for me?
Who could it be?

It was her,
Every night it was her

It was her,
Always asking for a favor

It was her,
Always asking to use the phone

Sometimes I would pretend I wasnt home
Sometimes I'd talk through the door
It wasnt always like this before

The day we met, she stole my change
She asked for a cigarette, and then another

She said, When you get back, Ill help you unpack
But when I arrived, it turned out she lied

Her friend down the hall,
Helped me unload it all

The very next day,
Her friend from apartment A
Tried to make conversation, then without hesitation
Asked for a cigarette

She said, Tonight Ill buy a pack, and give you one back
I did not see her for three days

When she returned to my door,
She returned to ask for more

Then lady B, the first to steal from me
Made a habit of knocking on my door at bedtime

I told them both I quit; they did not throw a fit,
But they did quit knocking on my door

Finally I had peace,
The knocking had ceased

I wish that was all I had to say,
I never did see her friend again from apartment A
But lady B, he keeps bugging me

Knock, knock, knock!
Can I use your phone?
No, Im online, sorry
Its an emergency
Maybe your friend in apartment A
She doesnt have a phone
Dont you have change for a payphone?
Then I shut my door

Did she not understand, I see the dirt on her hands
I may have been nice, but Im not a fool
I know the game she plays I know it well

She did not understand, one week later
Knock, Knock, Knock!
Is it that irritating neighbor?

The frustration and irritation, filled me up inside,
This time I only spoke through the door,

Can I use the phone?
No, Im online
I began to walk across the room
She said, What?
I shouted, Im online!
Theres a better way to talk to people you know, she said
But did lady B know and understand,
That there is a better way to treat people.
