9/23/96: Hamada & Delfin & Astro & Otsuka vs. Togo & Shiryu & Funaki & Collins ****1/4
11/12/96: Sasuke & Hamada & Delfin vs. Togo & Men's & Shiryu-super stretch run ****1/2
12/9/96: Sekigun vs. DX Elimination
Match: Sasuke & Hamada & Delfin & Naniwa & Tiger Mask IV
vs. Togo & Men's &
TAKA & Shiryu & Funaki-Some
of the eliminations come too quick, but other than that it's awesome. Naniwa
is the man here.
****1/4
12/16/96: Sasuke & Hamada &
Delfin & Naniwa & Yakushiji vs. Togo & Men's & TAKA &
Shiryu & Funaki-there's about
500 people in the crowd, but these
guys have an incredible match that's not as good as 10/10/96 but it's on
that level and it's
the best match these guys have done
since 10/10. 25 minutes of one great spot after another with perfect execution.
An
incredible display of athleticism.
*****
12/17/96: TAKA vs. Shinzaki-TAKA
probably should have just packed it in since he was doing the job to the
lazy stiff, but
instead he caries Shinzaki to his
best match in a long time.
12/20/96: TAKA vs. Delfin-TAKA's
selling is phenomenal. First half is fine, but 2nd half, particularly the
finishing sequence, is
great. ****

Contained
spectacular moves, but didn't build

very little to the table, but the other guys made up for him. ***1/2

Sasuke was pretty spectacular here with his flying. Shinzaki used more

Ikuto Hidaka & Minoru Fujita
vs. Mach Junji & Ryuji Hijikata. About half of the match is shown.
I hoped that Hidaka & Fujita
could draw Junji & Hijikata
up, but unfortunately it was the other way around.
Tiger Mask vs. Katsumi Usuda. 1st U.W.F. with a few high spots at the end by Tiger. *1/4
Independent World Junior Heavykyu
Senshuken. Naoki Sano vs. Curry Man. Curry Man was badly outclassed. Sano
looked
good on offense, but Curry Man got
to control the match since he was jobbing. Curry's antics got little reaction
and his offense
was too deliberate and light. *1/2
TAKA Michinoku vs. Minoru Tanaka.
Like some of Yoshida's matches in ARSION, it was mainly a worked shoot.
The pro
style spots they used, with the
exception of TAKA's enzui missile kick, were rather masterfully worked
in though. Really
effective transitions here. The
selling was really good except they stayed in submissions too long. TAKA's
slaps looked weak,
but otherwise the execution was
about perfect.****

-1hr 25min. Q=TFT
Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Kazuya Yuasa. Mochizuki dominated the rookie in a very short match.
Gran Hamada & MEN'S Teio vs.
Judo Suwa & Curry Man. Good action, but awfully short. MEN'S wasn't
too fired up in his
return, but Curry Man looked better
here than in the past. **1/2
CIMA vs. Minoru Fujita. 12 minutes
of non-spot action. Really exciting with great work and spots. No time
for build or selling
though. Most people will rate this
above ****, I think. ***3/4
Junsei Shinzaki & Magnum TOKYO
vs. Sumo "Daddy" Fuji & TARU. Magnum & Shinzaki were good enough
to make this a
pretty good match in spite of the
lackluster opposition. 9:28 shown.
The Great Sasuke vs. Tiger Mask.
Several nice, well executed spots, but they didn't really sell so the timing
of the comebacks
was rather bizarre. ***1/2

Tag League digest
The Great Sasuke & Gran Hamada
& Masaaki Mochizuki & Minoru Fujita vs. Sasuke The Great &
Sumo Fuji & Curry Man
& NANIWA. The first half had
too much brawling, but they really turned it on in the second half. This
had so many near fall
saves that it almost got ridiculous.
Fujita was the best. ***3/4
Michinoku Futari Tobi '99 Yushoketteisen:
Tiger Mask & Magnum TOKYO vs. CIMA & SUWA. This was basically a
Toryumon match, spots but not much
else. The main problem with the match was that CIMA & SUWA totally
dominated and
eventually won, so it never really
built the drama that a league final should have. The wrestlers are good
enough to have very
good one dimensional matches though.

1/9/00 Lucha no Koku Kara '99 Yokan taped 12/21/99 Tokyo Korakuen Hall
-1hr 25min. Q=TFT
Tiger Mask vs. Kazuya Yuasa. Tiger totally dominated the rookie. *
Chaparita ASARI & Hiromi Yagi
vs. Yoshiko Tamura & Tanny Mouse. ASARI & Yagi got almost all the
offense in, so it was
pretty good. ASARI did even more
flying than usual. 4:33 shown
Beef Wellington vs. Chad Collyer.
Collyer has potential, but right now his mechanical American style with
cartoonish selling
doesn't fit in. 6:15 shown.
Minoru Fujita & Shiryu 2 &
Jody Fleisch vs. CIMA & Super Boy & Curry Man. All action sprint
with all kinds of flying. The
rudos totally made the match because
they made Shiryu & Fleisch look like spectacular veteran aerialists.
The match was great
when CIMA & Fujita were in,
as they did some really nice sequences, but the main thing was the rudos
held it together in
between the great flying with good
looking and well executed offense and teamwork. Spectacular exhibition.
****
Jinsei Shinzaki & Gran Hamada
vs. Masaaki Mochizuki & Magnum TOKYO. Shinzaki had his working boots
on. Hamada &
particularly Mochizuki were impressive,
but Magnum wasn't that great. They did all their good spots, but the match
had the
typical problem of Mochizuki &
TOKYO never being in danger of winning. ***1/4
The Great Sasuke & Great Sasuke
Dina & Great Sasuke Tiga vs. Sasuke The Great & Masked Tiger &
NANIWA. Match
didn't have much in the way of direction,
focus, or flow. There was too much brawling and the heels were unimpressive.
