The Breast Plate
Nearly all hunters I know who hunt with dog's swear by their Breast Plates.  The Breast Plate is the only form of protection against a Big Tusky Boar, and therefore, they are necessary if you want your best dog to stay alive.
The Breast Plate shown is ideal for any dogs needs.  Although there are alot of new and improved model coming out, this Plate will do the job, and as a bonus, these type of Plates are easy to make.
There are a number of fabrics that can be used for making a Breast Plate, some people prefer kevlar (the common firehose) which is extremely strong, but also hard to cut, and some people prefer stainless steel mesh, which offers alot of ventilation but seems to catch the teeth of the pigs.  This Plate is made out of a thick leather, simular to the leather found on horse saddles.  The problem with leather is that it can somtimes heat up and result in the dogs over heating.  If ocasionally taken off the dog, leather works out to be an ideal choice.  Scrap leather can be found at most saddlery stores and/or most other leather outlets.  Leather is easy to work with which is a bonus.
As you can see, the plate consists of two major parts.  A Y shaped peice (outside) and a kidney shaped peice (inside).  The two peices have been stitched together with a industrial sewing machine.  Obtaining one of these normally provces costly.  A better idea is to get your hands on a leather stapler.  They hold the leather together strongly and add a nice finish to the plate.
Once the two peices are together (as shown on picture),  staple/stitch two belt ends to one side of the fork at the tip of the Y, and staple/stitch two belt heads to the other side.  This secures the Plate to the neck of the dog.
At the end of the Y, cut slits into leather so a belt can be weaved through, to secure Plate to dogs torsoe. i.e.  a good idea is to use elastic or velcro to fasten Plate to dogs torsoe to prevent chafing.
If needed, tie a peice of leather or string from the torsoe belt to the bottom neck belt to stop torsoe belt from slipping down below the dogs ribs.
And thats how easy it is to save your dogs life.
Happy Hunting!!!!!!!!!!!
