As soon as I could ride a bike I was doing crazy things like wheelies off of cracks on the sidewalks, little jumps, and Evil Knievel jumps we made jumping garbage can lids with my Vista bike.  I graduated to an orange Schwinn Stingray with 5speeds and front and rear brakes in 1975.  It was a tank but I jumped and motocrossed on it.

1977 I saw a commercial for Schwinn Scramblers with dudes racing around a track.  Immediately I knew I wanted to do that but none of the bike shops had bikes like that?  Later that year I found a 1976 Redline that was decked out!  I rode it a couple of days but finally found out who the owner was.

He was from Colorado originally but moved here with his family.  I delivered the bike to him and he was very happy to see it again.  I asked how I could get a cool bike like this and he stated that he was working at a new shop which opened up near my home.  I immediately went down there and wanted a Redline.  Well, they didn't have any so they suggested the Torker.

I convinced my Mom to buy it due to the knarly stuff I was doing on my Stingray.  She agreed and bought it for me.

It had a mild steel frame, steel wheels with 105 gauge spokes and a coaster brake, box handlebars with a single Astabula stem, Astubula cranks, 20x2.125 tires, and everything else steel.  I loved that bike and immediately found out that I needed a new stem and bars.

Well, that was my start in a true BMX bike and the rest is history with the other years to follow!
