The Rules

1
a) In order to win the shield you must win a game of golf over the course of nine holes.
b) If the game involves 18 holes, the current holder must nominate either the front or back nine as the nominated "Shield" holes.
c) At the commencement of an 18 hole game it can be decided to play for the shield over the entire 18 holes if agreed by the match committee, (the people playing the game)

2.
When a golf match is organised, the holder of the shield must be present. If they are unable
to attend for two consecutive games they forfeit the shield.

3.
a) In the case of a tied game the current holder retains the shield.
b) If the game is tied and the current holder is not one of the tied players, if possible a
play off hole will be played.
c) If it is not possible to play an extra hole, the player with the most pars/birdies for the
round will be awared the Shield.
d) If the game is played at Ellislie the playoff will be for closest to the pin on the first hole.

4.
a) Winners of the Shield on a full course will have their name, date and course played,
"engraved" on the surface of the shield.
b) Winners of the Shield at Ellerslie will not have their name engraved on the Shield unless
they win the Shield on 2 consectutive occasions. If this is achieved they will have their
name and date recored under the Ellerslie Section. They may have it entered multiple
times.

5.
At all times matches should if possible consist of a minimum of four players. At no time may
only two players compete for the shield.

6.
a) After the game, every attempt should be made to conduct the handover presentation, (if
required) at a local social establishment.
b) Purchase of the first round is at the descretion of the Shield holder. It encouraged that a
closest to the pin hole is included in the round. Team Result may also be a good way.

7.
The winner of the shield is responsible for updating this web page. It is acceptable to email
Dave with pictures and a match report.

8)
When you win the Shield you are only the temporary custodian. That means although you may have it in your possession you must look after it and can not take it out of the country. (unless an officially sanctioned tour is approved.) i.e if you move out of town you have to leave it here for the rest of us to still compete for.

9.
a)  In order to play you must be invited.  In order to be eligible for an invitation you must some how have a link to the original and founding 4 members of the golf club. Jon, Jo, Russell and Dave. (i.e. we have to know you).  The Invitation does not neceassarily have to be from the founding four.

10)
Communication is via Email although occasionally text messages.  If you wish to be on the email list, send Dave an email and each time we plan a game I can email you to tell you where and when we are playing. Alternatively you can email us if you are keen to organise a game.

Any other rules we come up with also count, if I have forgotten something.
