Eley Sets The Pace (Raglan front 9 24/9)
After a hard night the front nine holes at Raglan were selected as a suitable location for our first official game. (although there was no prize yet.) We tee-ed off behind the club house on the first hole and we were off. John set a cracking pace, Jo was Steady, Russell started as he continued and Dave ended up somewhere in-between. The weather was clear, the temp was warm and there a number of "touches of the Tony's" present.
Highlights of the Round
1) Chasing Sheep around the entire nine holes and no one hitting one until the final hole. (Good job Jo, I think you might have managed consecutive hits on the same sheep in the end).
2) An average of one ball per hole lost by the foursome over the course of the afternoon.
3) Jon "watch out for that water Rusty"
Russell "there is no way you can hit the water look were it is, no chance"
Golf ball "splash"
4) Finally finding a place on our trip where we did not look out of place in our uniforms.
5) Beers $3 for a handle.
Final outcome: 1) Jon 2) Dave 3) Jo 4) Russell (England Reps one match play too.)
Scores unavailable as we have lost the golf card. We might find it sometime.

It's Two for Eley (Waitomo Back 9 25/9)
The original plan was to play the back nine of Raglan but when we arrived at the course it was over run with young whippersnappers. After dodging their attempts at driving golf balls over the main road in the attempt to hit some cows (I thought there were enough sheep to aim at on the course) we decided to continue on to our next port of call at Waitomo.
We arrived in Waitomo and were informed the course was being cored. Fortunately for us they started on the front nine and the back nine was still available. Weather was clear and sunny, temperature was scorching hot. Questions were being seriously asked about the appropriateness of our clothing choice. More than one member of the four was becoming concerned at the odors wafting from certain sweet prone parts of their body.
Waitomo was a lovely course, and I would thoroughly recommend it if you are in the area. (Although the ladies tees were a little too far away from the mens for my comfort).
Highlights of the round
1) Excitement about the initial down hill direction of the course. This was short lived however when we realised we had to walk back up the hill.
2) Being the only players on the course as officially it was closed. (Greens keeper gave us the go a head to play, although he probably pocketed the green fees himself, no that I would blame him, if he was indeed the green keeper)
3) Russell not making the Ladies Tee on about the 4th hole, and having to suffer the appropriate punishment.
4) The establishment on the "KT" and the subsequent demonstration of many more "KT's"
5) Finishing the course with a 489m par 5, Russell, making sure he got his money's worth by playing more shots on the hole than everyone else almost put together (12)
5) Jon's $2.50 set of clubs and bag being supplemented by a six iron from the hire clubs. (this was an honest mistake....honest)
Final Result 1) Jon 49 2) Dave 53 3) Jo 58 4) Russell 66
