Eley wins at Chamberlain     23/2/07

Sorry about the uselss title but as the rules state the winner must write the match report.  Jon has yet to write a report and as I did not win I can not remember much about the round, In fact I reckon I might not have even been playing.  Anyway Jon won and that is all I know. If he manages to write a report I will post it.
Alan Pays a Visit   9/3/07

It was a great day in the history of the JT Shield.  For the first time it went intergenrational and who better to be part of this honor than Alan Thorp, Jo's Dad.  To make the whole family party complete we also had Jo's brother in law Richard along for the ride to, a fine effort.

It was a stunning afternoon.  Blue sky, temperature scorching and a tight match through out.  There were five players, with playing groups split into a 3 and a 2.  much banter and nervous communication was had between groups but as the round wore on it became obvious there was only one player in the game.  Determined to regain the shield and have his name again engraved into the the history, Dave played below his handicap and proved to hot for the other players.

With the Hadicaping system working well for established players it was nervous times estimating the potential playing ability of the new comers. Luckily for Dave we were too harsh, dishing out unrealistic handicaps.  This resulted in the new players needing to play near perfect golf to overcome the more established players.

As the game wore on it became obvously that the quickly approaching twilight may become a significant factor in the outcome of the match.  Having followed around 4 of the most boring and slow golfers ever patience was wearing thin on the leading group.  After a number of "hurry up" shots and a few more encouraging words, we stood on the 18th tee in light that should only be reserved for world cup cricket finals to be played in.  Despite only having a close lead, Dave was very happy to safely get of a tee shot that went straight down the middle of the fairway.  (if it hadn't I don't think we would have found the ball.)

So we all finished off in near dark and retired to the 19th for a well deserved celebratory drink.  Cheers for the Game Alan it was great to meet you.  (We all had a vote and decided you are a better golfer than Jo)

Highlights
Miscalculation of the time it gets dark.  (damn daylight savings finishing)
Tirades of abuse that was given to the people infront of us.  They did deserve it though, taking 10 minutes for four people to tee off after all having about 4 million practice shots each only to duff the ball 2 metres infront of them.

Players Dave, Jon, Gerard, Richard, Alan
Dave proudly recieving the shield from Alan Thorp.  Notice how dark it looks, well if you look out the door behind anyway.
