In The Begining
Our Journey began when our good friend Jo Thorp was to return to his home land.  Being the responsible and enthusiastic young men we are, we thought it only fit to send him off in the appropriate manner.

A farewell trip was "organised" over a few drinks.  The plans were a little sketchy, the departure time even more vague and when it came time to leave, all usefull items were left behind

What began as a road trip quickly disintegrated into a nearly full blown golf trip.  Uniforms were purchased, rules and etiquette were quickly established, we were off.

Although we were run out of a couple of small towns for being too much of a contemporary/retro mix for their tastes, we still managed to fit in a few fine games of golf.  Raglan, Waitomo and Mangakino were graced with our presence.  Although no course records were set, these courses were witness to a type of golf they have never seen the like of before or will again in the future..

At Mangakino, the Man of the Moment while at the local Diary made what may have been one of the most significant purchases of his life,  He acquired a quality plate for $1.50.  This plate went on to become the Jo Thorp Testimonial Shield, possibly the most sort after prize in southern hemisphere sports.

This Web Page has been developed to record and promote the Shield for future generations.
This is the night we said farewell to Jo.  It also marked the occasion when the plate became the Jo Thorp Testimonial Shield.
Late in 2006 it was decided that the Shield was becoming far too full of the winners names.  There was also concerns about the durability of the Shield should it go on tour again.  Jon and Dave went to work in designing and building a new more resilient shield to ensure that the orignal would last for future generations to enjoy.

With some help from the technology department we sourced a great deal of recycled materials and developed the new shield.  Advantages are it's ability to bounce on concrete and also it will double as a useful drinks tray.
The new and old shield's side by side.  The old shield was last seen trying to be snuck into the trophy cabinet at work.
