THE SCENE: H.I. is lying on his bunk in his jail cell wishing he could be with his fianc�e Ed (Holly Hunter) while his cellmate drones on and on about his childhood.

THE LINE:
In: ...and when there was no meat we ate fowl; and when there was no fowl we ate crawdad; and when there was no crawdad to be found, we ate sand.
HI: You ate what?
In: We ate sand.
HI: You ate sand?
In: That's right.


THE SCENE: H.I. is out of jail and finally has a real job in a machine shop. While he's working, one of his co-workers tells him a story.

THE LINE:
Co: ...and me and Bill are patrolin' down 9-mile.
HI: Bill Roberts?
Co: No! Not that mother-scratcher, Bill Parker.
Anyway, we're approaching the wreck and there's this spherical object a-restin' in the highway... and it's not a piece of the car.
