A Bowl Full of Nuts - A Riddle(?)

In posh setting, they stand forlorn [in the studio]
Some part-cracked, others with shell’s worn, [Dan Rather]
By the wear of time against Nature’s protection [face lifts needed]
Of the nut meat that lies in each tidy section. [selective reporting]

Once they had a purpose to serve. [past broadcasters]
Now to remain requires bits of color and nerve. [Rather, Brokaw, Jennings]
Selected from the best of Trees that abound [university journalism schools]
By inner quality, not appearance were they found. [appearance of sincerity]

However, polish has been applied even when not needed, [beautiful suits and facials]
To catch the eye of those whose appetites are to be satiated. [audience]
The gatherers provided the slick cover that makes [presentation is everything]
Hard the Discovery of the essence inside, is it Truth or Fakes? [They are slick]

For you see through the majesty of science, need I mention Chemistry, [technology]
The outward appearance can cover a multitude of parsimony.[outsourcing the information]
Cheapening the product to make it appear worthwhile [put individual spin on it]
A Niggardly attempt to besmirch and beguile. [no longer research the data or go to the field]

These Nuts that appear on each Day’s table [news at 6:30]
Are for some the only foodstuff to consume they are able. [few read newspapers anymore]
No longer is there a variety to choose from [stations acquired by Disney, Microsoft and Turner]
The power of breeding and selection has reduced them to the most lithesome.[pretty faces]

Shining surface and polished demeanor [new actresses called newspersons]
Will no doubt please, but certainly not offender. [They are pretty]
Lacking substance within is not a problem for the breeders [As long as they can read the script]
Of this variety of nuts that are certainly not seeders. [when they grow old, out they go!]

For some nuts ‘tis best to let them lie on the ground [the selection process]
For a forlorn squirrel or nut-gatherer to be found.[In the past they could works at other stations]
Nature’s cruel and few find a place to rest in her embrace [ no longer]
Nestled in Mother Earth to return once again to the Human Race. [they can’t go back]

These nuts that appear in the plastic and glass bowls, [tv sets]
Out with them, to the trash along with their paper-mate souls! [the liberal “press”]
There’s no new life to be given from these Nuts of the tribe [they’re sterile]
Degeneration ‘s the theme they offer and care not to hide. [it’s voyerism]

As the bowl becomes organized to avoid displeasure [networks work together for sameness]
Of those who might have found taste, satisfaction and leisure [editors]
In cracking their own. A child’s like view is provided [reduce to lowest intellect level]
So that the kernel inside is watered down and one sided. [given a liberal view only]

Taste has suffered as some nuts must not be present. [conservatives need not apply]
There are those allergic to products from the messenger RNA sent [careful not to offend some]
Respect for their wishes and specter of liability and fights [abortion, gay rights, etc.]
Will deprives of the variety of sensations and gustatory delights. [balanced views]

Deprived of the depth and knowledge on which to make decisions [content]
The nut-meat lacks substance to give the consumer precision [may draw inaccurate conclusion]
For choosing between the pretty one and the ugly shell. [their view vs. the opposite viewpoint]
Content is disguised so that branding’s the thing on which to dwell. [paint communism as just]

Trust in the package is a shell game indeed [word meaning is changed to confuse]
Barnum would be pleased to see his methods succeed. [repeat often, the public will be fooled]
Promotions the thing that rings Corporate bells [right or wrong as long as sponsor’s name appears]
Quality within is not what sells. [it’s name recognition]

The poor buyer has choices few. [hard to distinguish between opposite sides sometimes]
Can he decide on the packaged view? [put together to attract the masses]
Or will he swallow it all with not a dim thought [how gullible is the viewer?]
That the product he’s consuming is not what he bought? [can’t distinguish between right/wrong]

Or will he be like the Mugwump sitting astride fences of old? [infighting within the party]
With Mug on one side and Wump on other so bold. [taking sides]
Not very good choices, to feed the one end [torn between the two]
Or clean-up after the other that passes much wind. [pay taxes and clean up as well]

The nutbearer should suffer the displeasure of countless viewers [tv stations]
Who see nothing in this bowl that offers taste or substance, but manures.[programming]
Alas, the bowl cares not for what you see, [know they have a captive audience]
It knows that there are few choices for you and me. [where else can you get news]
