I am a fifty-five-year old African-American male. I was born in Dorsey, Maryland, a small rural community just outside of Baltimore. I was reared by my grandparents, who instilled in me a strong moral background, the foundation of which was religion and the church. I was educated in the local public schools. I did attend college, but I did not graduate. I am married and have three daughters and a son. I also have seven grandchildren. I now live with my wife in Woodlawn, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. I believe in God. I love my family, and I think the United States of America is the best country in the world. The first questions you probably asked when you picked these particular books were "Why the title American Apartheid? Why the title No Land, No Mule, No Freedom?" Contrary to popular belief, books, as well as people, are judged by their first impressions or covers. A perfect example of this theory is the fact that you are about to read these books. The explanation for the titles will be made very clear as you continue to read on.

When the camera focuses on a ballplayer on the sidelines, the player usually takes that opportunity to say "Hello!" to family and friends. Now that I am in the spotlight, so to speak, I would like to say "Hello" to and dedicate my book to the following: my loving wife, Jackie, my wonderful children and grandchildren; my mother, Estelle Wright Thomas; my father, James S. Wright, Sr; and my stepmother, Barbara Wright. The first of many thanks is to God for providing me with the skills to write this book. The next most "thank you" is to my grandparents, Louanna and Wilbur Wright, who are the best role models a man could have. Special thanks go also to one my best friends, Priscilla Young, who along with Gene Noble, Gary Reynolds, Paul Evans, Charles Lowder and Clifton Ball helped make my dream come true. |
