Big Time Wrestling returned to Hollister at the newly renovated Veteran's
Memorial Hall on Saturday, July 26th with a superb card, featuring former
WWF and WCW star, Kamala, the Ugandan Giant!
Veteran ring announcer Allan Bolte introduced the opening match between Jin Hiryu and Kaden. These two youngsters have battled around the Central Coast, and with a few timely martial arts kicks, it was the bellicose Hiryu over Kaden.
HopSing Lee was welcomed back to BTW with a firestorm of offense from the
very popular BTW Light Heavyweight Champion, Wild Storm. L'Empereur,
breaking tradition, accompanied his "Little Yellow Friend" to the ring, and
received a very nice tornado DDT on the floor for his interference. Arm
drags aplenty, and Hopsing's hilarious antics, aided by his "Fiendish French
Friend" weren't enough to prevent Wild Storm from applying a marvelous
Swanton Bomb to pin Lee, and even gulp L'Empereur's champagne in a victory toast while leaving the ring. Wild Storm always is entertaining, and has the crowd on his side, and it was great to see HopSing again. Lee and L'Empereur bickered all the way back to the dressing room.
Fresh from their feud in Newark the night before, Dee Licious, accompanied
by the Certified Chick Magnet, Dash Riprock, met Sara Del Rey in a singles
match. The crowd was really behind Sara here, and Riprock never missed the opportunity to get a few cheap shots in on Sara. With Riprock holding
Del Rey's legs, Dee managed to get a 3 count, and escaped with a pinfall
victory.
Hawkeye Shane Kody, the roughhouser, met Vennis De Marco in a 2 out of 3 falls match. De Marco surprisingly played by the rules this time, while Kody
resorted to what he does best- break them! Some very good psychology and mat wrestling in this one, and a cowbell for the final fall gave Kody the win!
A brief intermission followed, where fans were able to get autographs from
many of the BTW stars, and take polaroids with Kamala.
Those pesky Ballards were at it again, as they met Stylin and Profilin-
Irresistible Jason Styles, the BTW US Champion, and his tag team partner,
the Certified Chick Magnet, Dash Riprock. The heat between these four hadn't cooled one degree from their previous night's battle in Newark, and all four men performed brilliantly in this wild tag team bout. Styles never fails to
entertain on the mic, and really had the crowd revved up for this one. This
was a superbly entertaining match, see-saw momentum, and much high flying. In the end, Riprock, after taking a tremendous pounding the night before, fell to a rollup and handful of tights, and the Ballards were vindicated
with a win over Stylin' & Profilin'. To the delight of the crowd, Jason and
Dash cleared the ring of the gloating Canadians, and made their way to the
dressing room with the help of the sexy Dee.
The main event of the evening saw France's Most Cunning Athlete, L'Empereur, accompanied by his not-so-faithful manservant, HopSing Lee face the Ugandan Giant, Kamala, with his trainer Kimchee and manager, Sheik Hassan. L'Empereur was met with a chorus of boos, while the crowd really took Kamala to heart, most fans recalling their childhood watching this gentle Giant on TV. L'Empereur is a most entertaining fellow, and the two really pulled off some hilarious spots. At one point, L'Empereur, gloating over achieving to hold an arm bar on Kamala, was bitten on the arm and exclaimed "You Ugandan Eeediot, I am NOT a croissant!" After doing his best to choke Kamala on the ropes, and have HopSing get in a few cheap shots, poor L'Empereur succumbed to a frightfully loud splash in the corner, Lee trapped in there too, and the Big Kabosh finished off this lopsided battle. Again, Kamala needed directions from Hassan and Kimchee to roll a crushed L'Empereur onto his back for the pinfall. Without fail, L'Empereur and Hopsing Lee argued and bickered all the way back to the dressing room. The crowd left happy and entertained, and BTW never fails to deliver talent from around the country, and their own stable of fine wrestlers.

Big Time Wrestling returned to the Newark Pavilion on Friday, July 25th,
settling several grudge matches from the Bay Area Challenge, and bringing
back one of the all time greats, Kamala, the Ugandan Giant.
Legendary ring announcer Allan Bolte introduced the first contest of the
evening between Scotty Slater, now under the tutelage of the "Rat in Sheik's
Clothing", Sheik Hassan, and Bulldog Brian Raymond. The two are no strangers to each other, having competed in the Bay Area Challenge last month. Bulldog Brian Raymond managed to defeat Slater when Hassan's interference backfired.
Next, it was Andre D'Mann, Tony Fury, and the popular 400lb Icebox in an
Oaktown Street Fight! Chairs, chains, and some heads-into-steel-posts were
used, and Tony Fury prevailed in this one.
Bad blood certainly describes the return match from the BAC between Vennis
De Marco, and BTW's Cruiserweight Champion, L'Empereur. Recall that at the BAC, Empereur had De Marco pinned with a top rope Arc de Triumph, and with the help of a crooked APW referee, and a belt over the head, De Marco won via Reverse Decision DQ. This contest was another entertaining one, with chants of "Vennis the Pennis", and some hilarious Lucha style spots thrown in. L'Empereur was all business this time, and again had De Marco on his back, only to have APW's James Choi interfere. Meanwhile, De Marco clobbered L'Empereur, leaving him prone, and ripe for the pickin's! To the delight of everyone except the APW faithful, HopSing Lee, L'Empereur's comedic foil, and manservant, made his return by clobbering DeMarco with the belt, and rolling a stunned Empereur on top for the pinfall. The usual antics ensued after this one, and Empereur and HopSing left the ring bickering as always!
With the injury to Jardi Frantz, APW dispatched the competent James Choi to
face BTW's Light Heavyweight Champion, the ever-popular Wild Storm. Storm
and Frantz had a very good match at the BAC, going to a time limit draw, and
Storm vowed to finish off Frantz this time. Choi, knowing this, resorted to
some underhanded tactics to regain APW's honor. Many high flying moves in
this one, and Wild Storm seems to get better and better with every match,
making him one of the most exciting wrestlers to watch, and Choi is an
entertaining combatant, with some excellent martial arts skills. In the end,
Wild Storm's fabulous Swanton Bomb polished off Choi for the victory! Storm
looked like a missile, with his arms behind him as he speared a prone Choi.
Wild Storm retained his belt.
After a brief intermission, where fans were able to get autographs from
their favorite wrestlers, and take polaroids in the Ring with Kamala, the
crowd settled in for the two final events of the evening.
BTW's Longtime Bay Area Champion, Hawkeye Shane Kody had his hands full as he wrestled the 400lb Ugandan Giant Headhunter, former WWF and WCW standout, Kamala. Kimchee was there to direct the Monster to the ring, and a callous Shane Kody jumped Kamala before the bell, and before Kody even had his leather chaps off! Kamala was manhandled by Kody in the beginning, and for a while, it seemed that Kody's roughhouse brawling tactics might get the best of the friendly Giant. Kody really made a great showing for himself, but then an enormous headbutt, and reverse irish whip to a tremendous splash, and Kody was ripe for the Big Kabosh! After all these years, poor Kamala still can't remember to roll his supine opponent onto his back for the 1-2-3, and Kimchee had to direct his Beast to do just that. Once rolled over, the 3 count was academic to end this very hard-fought brawl. Kamala still is a very entertaining wrestler, and Kody is.....Kody! You gotta love them both!
The final event of the evening was a 6 person tag team war between the hated Canadian brothers, the Ballards, and their ally Sara Del Rey, and BTW's charismatic team of Irresistible Jason Styles, and the Certified Chick Magnet, Dash Riprock, "Stylin and Profilin", and their oft valet, the
sensuous Dee Licious.
The Ballards are a very good Indy team, wrestling all over the country, and
with Sara, they seemed confident to have this one in hand. Never, though,
count out the resilient and resourceful Styles and Riprock. Dash Riprock
took a tremendous pounding, especially with the Ballards breaking every
written rule of wrestling, and then some, while Dee did her best to fend off
Sara's underhanded tactics. Styles and Riprock combine some hilarious
tag-team gags with high flying Lucha spots, and superb mat wrestling, while
the Ballards are just plain crazy at times, doing many high risk maneuvers,
and possess a deadly arsenal of holds. The crowd was really hot for this
match, and in the end, it was the crowd pleasing Stylin and Profilin with
Dee, who got the victory and sent the crowd home happy with a big win for
their home team.

Styles came out to the ring at the beginning of the show and talked about his match against "Above Average" Mike Sanders. He mentioned some of the wrestlers that he's beat in the past. Sanders came out a few minutes later and told Styles that he didn't care who he's beaten in the past and that Styles has never beaten him before. Styles received quite a bit of heat from the crowd through out this whole promo. Overall a very entertaining beginning to a good show.

Big Time Wrestling returned to the Newark Pavilion on Friday night March 7th with a huge show in which they were bringing in pro wrestling legends Hawk & Animal (aka The Road Warriors) as well as NWA & WCW superstar Mike Sanders. A lot of talent from around the Bay Area would be on this card as well. Here are the results...
INTERVIEW with "Irresistible" Jason Styles
Styles came to the ring to talk about tonights match with Mike Sanders. He put down the people of Newark, and put himself over by naming all of the superstars he has defeated in the past like Buff Bagwell & Vic Grimes. This went on for a few minutes until Sanders music hit and he came to the ring. Sanders told Styles that he didn't care who he has beat in the past, because he has never beaten HIM. The fans were really behind Sanders and this match would go down later in the night.
Lord Byron Rogue vs. Johnny Payne
This match opened the show. Payne has been wrestling in this area for BTW for quite a long time now, and he is still in pretty good shape. He doesn't seem as wild and crazy as he was when I used to watch him as a kid though. Rogue is very green, and looks (and acts) a lot like William Regal. Payne wins the opening match by overpowering his opponent.
WINNER: Johnny Payne
-"Hawkeye" Shane Kody & L'Empereur (with Hop Sing Lee) vs. ICEBOX & Tony Fury
A tag team match pitting BTW's L'Empereur & Shane Kody against Oaktown's ICEBOX & Tony Fury. L'Emp & Kody worked well together as a team, and Hop Sing was definatley a distraction at ringside. Kody used his cowbell and nailed ICE a couple of times with it knocking him out. Some of the fans started getting really rowdy during this match, and L'Emp & Kody were drawing a lot of heat from the fans at ringside, however they still managed to pick up the tainted victory.
WINNERS: Shane Kody & L'Empereur
-"Chick Magnet" Dash Riprock (with Dee) vs. "Superstar" Scotty Slater
Riprock looked pretty good in this match with his brand new ring gear. He is one of the better workers in BTW. This was the first time I have seen Slater work in a couple of years, and he was about the same as last time I saw him in a match against Jimmy Ripp. Riprock gets a big reaction from the crowd, whether good or bad, they all have an opinion on him. I wasn't into this match too much, and didn't catch the finish.
WINNER: "Sexy" Scotty Slater
*BTW LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP*
-Super Diablo vs. Wild Storm
This match would crown the new BTW Lightweight Champion and it was between two of the companies lightweight daredevils. Super Diablo, a veteran who has been wrestling in these parts for a good 10 years now, against the young sensation Wild Storm. This match was everything that fans of these two were expecting it to be and more. Even I didn't expect them to get this hardcore, and I popped when Diablo hit a hurricarana from the top sending Storm into the ringside table. The fans were really into this one as it picked up and the action was hot at the end. Wild Storm hit a swanton bomb from the top and pinned Diablo to become the new Lightweight Champion.
WINNER: Wild Storm
-"Kamikaze Kid" Jardi Frantz vs. "Shooting Star" Bobby Quance
Two of APW's finest showcased their abilities in this one. The fans didn't seem to know who either of them were, but took quite a liking to Bobby Quance and really respected both mens abilities after the match was over. Both men hit some nice top rope moves, and Jardi continues to find a way to hit a rana from any position. Quance missed a shooting star press attempt but landed on his feet. He eventually locked Frantz up in a submission hold and caused the Kamikaze Kid to tap out. The fans gave both men a pretty good ovation after this match, which I wouldn't say was their best, but I would give them about 3 stars for it.
WINNER: Bobby Quance
BTW UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP
-"Irresistible" Jason Styles vs. "Above Average" Mike Sanders
The fans were really into this match. They loved Sanders & they hated Styles. Sanders looked pretty good, and it was nice to see him putting a good amount of effort into this match, when sometimes you see big names come in and half-ass it. Props to Sanders for that. Styles is a very entertaining heel as well, and it was fun to watch the fans get on his case all night. In the end, Sanders escaped with a victory and became the brand new BTW US Champion.
After the match, Styles challenged Sanders for a title rematch tomorrow night at Legends Of Wrestling V in Antioch, and Sanders accepted.
WINNER: Mike Sanders becomes NEW BTW US CHAMPION
-The Ballard Brothers vs. The Road Warriors
It was great to see Hawk & Animal live for the first time in many years. Hawk was sick however, and came to the ring in street clothes. I was really looking forward to this match, as the greatest tag team ever (LOD) would take on one of the best tag teams around the indys today (Ballards). With Hawk being under the weather, it was agreed upon that Hawk would stand on the apron while Animal would try to fight both Ballards by himself.
It was very entertaining to see this 2-on-1 match, and Animal still looked to be in pretty good shape. The finish was pretty cool, as Hawk climbed up on the top rope and they hit the Doomsday Device to get the victory. Big pop from the fans for this, as even I jumped out of my seat when I saw the finish.
WINNERS: The Road Warriors
Oaktown Wrestling, February 21, 2003 - Mooselodge In Oakland
Super Diablo defeated Jason Styles. I wasn't able to make it to the show, but from what I've read it sounds like it was a good match overall. As usual, Styles drew some good heat from the crowd.
