History of The Name Tait

INTRODUCTION

---Welcome to THE TAIT FAMILY ---

The TAIT's, were one of the original Scottish Border Families. For those of you who are not familiar with the term "Border Families", they were very much like our Old Western Frontier families.

I became interested in our family genealogy when I was about fourteen years old. With the help of my Mom and Dad, and many family relatives, I have been collecting our family history for about 60 years, and thanks to the computer, it has made the job a lot easier. I started out by questioning members of my family and then my relatives, most of which have been very cooperative. Unfortunately, there are always some who are reluctant to share their lives with anyone. So I still have a lot of holes that need to be filled.

The Internet has proven to be a tremendous help in searching for Genealogical information, but it does not eliminate the need to use other resources as well. Internet Web sites such as; the Scottish Records Office; Scottish Clan History; and Scottish Family Research are great. But, we also have The US Library of Congress; The National Archives; The National Genealogical Society; and the LDS Genealogical Library which are excellent sources of help. The Links listed below have also been very helpful. Most of the better links charge a small fee for their use. However, there are some FREE Links available where you can get a lot of good information. (1) A Barrell of Genealogy Links has over 300 links to look through and it is well worth your effort to check it out. (2) Ancestry.Com is a link that charges a small fee, but you can search the site to see if it will be useful for your needs. (3) LDS Family Search is Free and a very good Genealogy Link. Their libraries are full of Genealogical Records and Files from all over the world. Rootscomputing.com is the home of Eastman's Genealogical Newsletter which contains a lot of very interesting articles.
