Andrew Tait of Fairfield woods, Fairfield, CT former President and
Treasurer
of Tait and Sons Paper Company of Bridgeport, CT. Educated in Trumbull, CT
Schools and later at the Park Avenue Institute of Bridgeport. Andrew became
associated with his father William Tait and his brother William Franklin Tait
in the paper business. Andrew became President and Treasurer of the company.
Andrew was a senior deacon of the Olivett Congregational Church. He married
Laura Wilson in October 1889. He had two daughters, Mrs. Eloise W. Stringer
of Fairfield, Mrs. Grace Roberts of Bridgeport, two sons Andrew Clifford Tait
of Buffalo, NY and William M.Tait of Bridgeport. Seven grandchildren and a
sister Mrs. Frank Plumb of Bridgeport.
Mr. Tait was a decendant of Andrew Tait a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, whose
family was enguaged in the manufacture of paper box board for several generations.
He came to Trumbull in 1822, and was superintendent for D. and P.N. Fairchild, in box
board manufacture, building the mill andsetting up the machinery. He soon embarked
in business for himself, and in 1856 established mills on Tait Mill Road in Trumbull.
The business was moved to Fairfield Avenue in North Bridgeport in 1895, and later
to a location in city on Railroad Avenue.
