Andrew TAIT born 27 Jan 1799 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He died on 27 Jan 1890 in Trumbull, CT, U.S.A.
Andrew was Christened in Newbattle Parish, Edinburgh, Scotland, on 10 Mar 1799. In 1820, he migrated to the United States of America and lived in Hartford County, CT. On 14 Jun 1822, Andrew married Isabella Ronaldson, who was born in Hartford, CT on 22 May 1800. They then moved to Trumbull, CT where Andrew, who had learned the art of papermaking in Scotland, guided the endeavors of Reuben Fairchild and his brothers, and built the Fairchild Paper Mill in 1826. The company ran a boarding house for its women employees. The mill stood west of White Plains Road at the "Falls" on the Pequonnock River, near what is now the entrance to Fairchild Memorial Park, Trumbull, CT.

In 1836, Andrew embarked in business for himself and built the Tait and Sons Paper Mill on Tait Mill Road, which bordered the Pequonnock River in Trumbull, CT. The paper mill manufactured paper and strawboard products. The strawboard was used to make boxes which were designed to package corsets. Among the various paper products made, were note pads for office use.

The mill property was sold to Bridgeport Hydraulic Company in 1895, and the paper mill was moved to Fairfield Avenue, North Bridgeport, CT. It was later moved to the lower part of the city on Railroad Avenue.
