Most the trackers and servers listed on this page rely on the loading of a graphical image to count page impressions; therefore, they do not count visitors who have turned images off or who are using non-graphical browsers. For the most accurate results, you need software running on your server to track each visitor or to analyze your log files.

Think twice before using tools that use Java, JavaScript, or any other specialized script: inevitably, they will not work properly with some web browsers, causing trouble (some visitors will be unable to view your page, and many will simply leave, while a few will complain, diverting your time and energy from more productive tasks).

If you have access to the actual "access log files" for your web site, don't use a counter or tracker: use one of the more powerful Log Analysis and Statistics Programs.

Ask: Why is this company providing a free counter? Do they plan to re-use or re-sell data about visitors to your site to third parties? What privacy rights are implicated? Be sure to disclose your lack of control over the counter or tracker data in your site's privacy policy!
