About the Webmaster
Welcome to my Tori Amos tribute web site! My name is Jen, and I have been a fan of Tori Amos for the past several years. A friend of mine (also named Jen) introduced me to Tori’s music; the first songs I heard were "Beauty Queen" and "Horses" from the Boys for Pele album. Tori’s emphasis on the piano has drawn me to her music. I have been playing the piano for over ten years, and I love to listen to any music that brings the piano to center stage. Tori plays with an incredible amount of emotion and energy, not to mention the technical skill of a Peabody-trained child prodigy. Her music speaks to me, and I can personally identify with many of the emotions in her songs. Unfortunately, I have not yet had the opportunity to hear Tori in concert, but I will definitely be scrambling for tickets the next time she begins a tour!
For this web site, I wanted to explore the concept of autobiography in Tori’s music. Many people do not realize that autobiography is more than merely a statement of what has occurred in a person’s life. Autobiography is a form of self-expression, a way to reach out to people, and an act of survival. Tori’s music is autobiographical on so many levels - not only as a confession of her feelings and life, but also as a reflection on being a woman. Her music is intriguing because she intertwines fictional selves with facets of her true self, and it is difficult to discern where one ends and the other begins.
