Listen to me, O islands, pay attention, peoples from distant lands. Yahweh called me from my mother’s womb; he pronounced my name before I was born. He made my mouth like a sharpened sword. He hid me in the shadow of his hand. He made me into a polished arrow set apart in his quiver. (Is.49:1)

N A T I O N A L – I N T E R N A T I O N A L  R O U N D – U P!

THE ANTI-FLU DIET: Sometimes a flu shot works, and sometimes it doesn’t. To increase your odds of preventing the flu, eat more broccoli, spinach, lettuce, and onions. They all contain quercetin, a powerful antioxidant shown to reduce the risk of flue in mice. Research has also linked high consumption of quercetin with catching fewer colds, says University of South Carolina researcher J Mark David, PhD. His virus-avoiding strategy (besides steering clear of those who are sick and being vigilant about hand washing) includes loading g up on quercetin-rich foods. Best of all, he says, are red onions, which have quadruple the quercetin of most other produce. Eat them raw or cooked, though cooking foods with quercetin may make the antioxidant more easily absorbed. (Janis Graham)

JUICY NEWS : A glass of pure juice is a convenient way to get a serving of fresh fruit, not to mention disease-fighting polyphenols  and protection from LDL oxidation – the trigger for the development of “bad” cholesterol. A study show that some of the new “gourmet”  juices – made from pomegranates, blueberries, black cherries, grapes, or berries- have up to 20 percent more antioxidants than orange and apple, the old standbys. Make your own healthful juices with veggies like gourds, tomatoes or beetroot. If you don’t find them tasty, try adding a bit of sugar or sugar substitute. (Janis graham)

SKIPPING SLEEP HARDENS ARTERIES:  People who scrimp on sleep are more likely to develop the hardening of their arteries, a precursor to heart disease. Experts say getting enough sleep is important for good health. In a study of 495 adults by the Journal of the American Medical Association, calcified arteries were found in nearly a third of people who slept fewer than five hours a night. This dropped to around one in 10 for those who slept an extra hour. (Insight)

KHRIST PREMALAYA, ASTHA: Greetings from Br. Stephen. I reached here safely and I am quite at home. The new academic year started on June 22 and we are 26 Brothers and one Sister in our batch. The place is good for studies and pastoral ministries. Various responsibilities and works have been very systematically arranged. My regards to all at the Bishop’s House and very specially to Bro. Pascal. (S . Stepen)
