BLESSED MOTHER TERESA PARISH, SIADIH: At the request of Pastor, Fr. Michael Jojo, St. Joseph’s Hosptial, Bhilai Pahari conducted a medical camp at Siadih for the Parishioners, School-hostel children and villagers on December 07 from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Dr. Sarsaj from the Tata Motors Hosptial, Telco and Sr. Fidelis were part of the team. There were 64 patients from the many villages and hostel and all were given free medicines by the team.

 

ST. JOSEPH’S CATHEDRAL, GOLMURI: Sixty five young men and women attended the marriage prepartion course held at St. Joseph’s Welfare Centre, Golmuri from December 05-07. Fr. James Quadros was the resource person.

The Jamshedpur Church’s Unity Forum had conducted a Tribal Dance competition on December 06 at the Welfare Centre Hall and six teams participated. The hall was packed with people to enjoy the 2 hour long dance programme.

Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the solemn Christmas Vigil Services at the Cathedral on December 24 at 11.30 p.m.

 

INDIAN CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION, JAMSHEDPUR BRANCH: The Annual Christmas gathering cum competition was held at SJWC on December 07 from 5.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. The members of the association worked hard as a team to get all the Christian Institutions to participate in the event. All the participating teams were given gifts and the winners cash awards. Congratulations to Dr. Raymond D’Souza, the Honorary General Secretary of the Association for the initiative and action plan.

 

ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPTIAL, BHILAI PAHARI:  The hospital celebrated its 2nd anniversary on December 12 and Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the solemn concelebrated Eucharist at 11.00 a.m. in the hospital. The hospital management and staff made the event memorable for all. The staff felicitated the guests with flowers and songs at the end of the Mass. Many of the patients including Msgr. John Bodra took part in the celebration. After the Mass all shared the family meal prepared by the hospital family. The hospital took care of the many cerebral malaria cases coming from the village area at the request of the civil administration.

 

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE PARISH, TELCO:The solemnity of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Parish Day was celebrated on December 12. Fr. Sanjay Kujur, C.Ss.R presided at the solemn Mass in the church at 5.30 p.m. Frs. Vijay Bhat, Raphael Monteiro, Johny Vithayathil, David Vincent, Harixion, Phny P.D., and Leo D’Souza concelebrated.

 

BISHOP’S HOUSE, GOLMURI: The Diocesan Clergy Met at the Curia Hall, Bishop’s House, on December 11 from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. welcomed the clergy and presided at the deliberations. The sessions concluded with lunch.

Bishop John Barwa, the Coadjutor Bishop of Rourkela preached the recollection for the clergy in the Cathedral on December 11 at 3.30 p.m. There were 28 participants. The programme began with the collection talk followed by adoration, confession and concluded with the solemn Benediction. After the Benediction Bishop shared and interacted with the clergy on the Orissa happenings and the present scenario.

Fr. Cyril Fernandes reached MTN on December 29 and made quick trips to the town parishes and institutions, Dhanbad, Adra, Purulia, Balrampur and Chaibasa before home visit. He will return to Fort wWayne in the 1st weel of February, 2009. 

 

ST. XAVIER’S SCHOOL, PURULIA: Principal Hilary attended  the 51st ASISC  Conference in Ahamedabad  from 26th  till 28th November 08. The theme of the  conference was “Igniting the Minds.” The  personality that really ignited  the minds of over 1000 Principals was none other than the Ex –President APJ Abdul Kalam with his superb  humour and  ready wit.

The Fifth Annual Sports Day was held in the school ground on 6th of December 08. The Chief Guest was Mr Rajesh Kumar Yadav, the District Superintendent of Police who spent more than two hours in the school. The Shanti House (Green House ) won the overall championship while the individual champions were Angela Mahato, Ankita Quiri and  Subrata Banerjee.

The Internal assessment was conducted  for the  ICSE batch 2009 from 8th December till 18th December 08.

A  team of 10  students led by the Science guide teacher Miss Kajori Das took part in the District Level Science Fair held in  District Science Centre, Purulia from 18th to 20th December 2008. Soumen Saniel of class XI won the First Prize and is now eligible to participate in the State  Level Science Fair to be held at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata from 27th to 30th December 2008.

Principal Hilary was invited to speak on December 24th  at the Ram Krishna Mission Vidyapeeth, Purulia on the occasion of their celebration of the Christmas Eve in the school. The topic of his speech was “Universal  Appeal of Jesus Christ.”
The construction of the New Basketball Court is in full swing. Half of the  construction work is over.( Hilary Lobo S.J.)

 

BISHOP’S HOUSE, GOLMURI: The Diocesan Clergy met at the Curia Hall at the Bishop’s House on December 11 at 9.30 a.m. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. welcomed the clergy and presided at the deliberations. The sessions concluded with Lunch. There were 36 clergymen for the meeting.

Bishop John Barwa, Coadjutor Bishop of Rourkela preached the Recollection for the Clergy on the 11th afternoon in the Cathedral. There were 28 participants and during the recollection there was Adoration, confession and Benediction. After the Benediction, Bishop shared and interacted with the clergy on the happenings in Orissa and the present scnario.

HEALTH BULLETIN - MSGR. JOHN BODRA: His health has improved substantially though unable to help himself much. He celebrated Christmas with the campus community and after the 11.00 p.m. Mass he ceremoniously cut the Christmas cake giving to each person present by himself. He paid a surprise visit to the Bishop’s House on December 26 to find out who has the balance stock of the Christmas celebration. He also went to the Sacred Heart Convent to wish his beloved Sister, Sr. Kenny, A.C.  He makes many rounds within the campus on his wheel chair (his new car) and often joins Frs. Casimir Vas and Vernon for tea and snacks . He has many travel plans before celebrating his birthday (88) on February, 12, 2009.

We thank each of you for your prayerful support for our beloved Msgr. Bodra. He is anxious to meet all the known people sometime or other and he talks very much about his own village (Matagara) – people and the persons who worked with him at the many parishes. His memory is back to normal. He conveys Christmas-New Year blessings to one and all.

 

SACRED HEART CHURCH, ADRA: The Parish children had their Christmas-Tree gathering on December 21 and more than 200 children enjoyed the celebrations in great joy. Fr. Sahay Thason presided over the Mass at 2.00 p.m. Later all assembled in the basketball court to share the Joy and Happiness of Christmas. The Santa Claus entertained the children by his dances-gifts and wishes!

Fr. Jerome presided at the Vigil Mass on the 24th night and the Church was packed with faithful to celebrate the Birthday of Lord Jesus. On December 31 evening had holy hour and Mass in the Church. Fr. Sahay Thason presided at the Thanksgiving Mass at 11.30 p.m. and Parishioners in great number joined for the liturgy. ST. BARBARA’S CHURCH, MOSABONI:The solemnity of the feast of St. Barbara, the Parish Day was celebrated on December 07. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the Mass at 9.00 a.m. in the forecourt of the Church and during the Mass he conferred the sacrament of Confirmation to 10 members. The faithful took active part in the Liturgy. Soon after the Mass there was a short felicitation for the Bishop, Guests and Confirmation candidates. The power failure delayed a bit to commence the well prepared cultural programme. The celebrations concluded with a family meal.

Sr. Joyce, AC gave a seminar on the “Word of God” for the Parish children on December 14 and 52 children took part in the sessions. It was a wonderful experience for the children to hear, study and understand the Word of God. (David) 

 

CHRISTMAS MILAN 2008: The Christmas Milan-2008 was held at St. Joseph’s welfare Centre on Thursday, December 25 at 4.00 p.m. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. welcomed the guests and briefed the VIPs of te town the meaning of Christmas and how we wish to share that Joy and Peace with all the people of Good Will. The hall was packed with well-wishers, friends and guests to witness the various programmes and messages. Fr. Vijay Kachhap, S.J. was the Master of the ceremony. MR. Dulal Bhuiya, Minister for Land and Revenue, Mr. Bailey Bodhanwalla, Mr. M. Indwar, Brahma Kumri and Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. gave messages during the gathering. The Candidates from Ashrivad, Sankosai, and Amar Jyoti, Pardih presented dances for the joy of one and all present. The Seminarians from Pratiksha and the Cathedral English Choir sang carols. The arrival of the Santa Claus (Arnold, DDS) added greater laughter and joy for all. Thanks to Fr. Michael Raj for all the arrangements in the Hall. Fr. Vijay Kacchap, S.J. had generously arranged coffee, cake and snacks for all at the end of the program. (Jacob)

 

ICYM CHRISTMAS GATHERING-08: The Jamshedpur Deanery youth assembled at St. Mary’s Church, N. Road for their Christmas gathering on December 14. Fr. Joseph Surin, S.J. presided at the inaugural Mass in the Church at 10.00 a.m. After the Mass there was candle-light procession within the campus and concluded at the Grotto. Later all assembled in the school hall for the cultural extravaganza. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. was the Chief Guest and he addressed the youth. Later the youth handed over to the Bishop their contribution of Rs.25,000.00 for the people of Khandamal. Fr. Vijay Kachhap, S.J. and Mr. Richard Sarky were the animators of the Youth Program-08 (Richard)

 

BIBLE SOCIETY OF INDIA, JAMSHEDPUR BRANCH: The Annual Inter-church Christmas Carol singing competition was held at St. Joseph’s Welfare Centre on December 13 from 6.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Fr. david Vincent, the Diocesan Treasurer was the Chief Guest.. Mr. Mathew Hembrom welcomed the Guests while Mr. P.S.Tiru offered the introductory prayer. Fr. Sanjay Kujur, C.S.S.R gave the Christmas message. This year 12 teams took part in the competitions. Congratulations to Dr. Jonathan Mahapatra, the General Secretary and the officials of the Branch for the well organized programme.

 

CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF NATIVITY, SINI:  Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the solemn’Confirmation’ and ‘First Communion’ celebration on the Parish on December 14. The Mass was held in the Church and during the Mass 2 members of the Parish received the sacrament of Confirmation  and 4 children First Communion. Frs. Shantwan and Shijumon concelebrated. It was a grand day for the Parish as all the parishioners were present to celebrate the day with the candidates of First Communion and Confirmation.

 

ST. FRANCID DE SALES SCHOOL, SERAIKELA: The school Annual Day was held in the campus on December 13 at 5.00 p.m. The school children presented a very colourful cultural programme for the joy of the parents, guardians, villagers and guests. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. was the Chief Guest and the Deputy Commissioner of Seraikeal-Kharswan was the Guest of Honour. Congratulations to Fr. Shijumon, the Principal, Staff and Students for the beautiful Annual Day –08.
