JAMSHEDPUR, INDIA

DECEMBER, 2007

That glorious Form, that Light unsufferable,

And that far-beaming blaze of Majesty

Wherewith He wont at Heaven’s high council-table

To sit the midst of Trinal unity,

He laid aside; and here with us to be,

Forsook the courts of everlasting day

And chose with us a darksome house of mortal clay! (John Milton)

Holy Spirit College, Leuven: The winter has set in and with what force! We just hope that the winter is not going to remain too harsh through the season. The Indian community in Leuven celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, on November 17 with much gaiety and pomp. It was a blend of cultures - South Indian, North Indian, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Belgian - overtly expressed in the various events that were held on the occasion. The lighting of lamps, beautifully decorated on the map of India, by every one present set the tone for the evening-long celebration and the delicious Indian cuisine offered the fitting finale for the Festivities. We all now await the arrival of Sint Niklaas (St. Nicholas, not the same as Santa Claus) on December 6, who will herald the spirit of Christmas in the households, churches, schools and markets. I wish every one of you a blessed Advent.(John)

FR. A. ANTONISWAMY, S.J. (17.09.1933 – 12.11.2007) : Fr. Swami was one of the greatest missionaries of Jamshedpur Diocese. He learned the tribal languages of ‘Ho’ and ‘Santhali’ to communicate God’s Gracious Love to the people where ever he was missioned. He was loved by one and all. He had time for everybody and surrendered his life in total dedication to serve the Lord and His People as a true Jesuit. He left us to receive the Eternal Award unannounced on November 12 sitting on an easy chair in his room in meditation posture. He is now truly our mediator and inspirer to spread the Word to all the people of Jamshedpur Diocese and Province. He was given a tearful and fitting farewell by the Clergy, Religious and Friends numbering over 450 on November 15 at Jesu Bhavan, Mango. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN LOVE AND JOY WITH THE DIVINE MASTER FOREVER!

RIP: Fr. A. Antoniswami, S.J. (Socius to the Jesuit Provincial of Jamshedpur) died on 12.11.2007: All the Priests and Religious working in Jamshedpur Diocese may please offer one Mass for Fr. Swami!

Morning Star College, Barrackpore: The month of November brought in a kind of gloom and murkiness due to the unjust attack on the people of Nandigram by the political opportunists and religious fundamentalists. The gloom got bigger with the news of the fresh attack on the Tribals in some packet of Assam. The Philosophers and Theologians had their Monthly Recollection on 8th and 15th Nov. respectively. The fourth year Theologians are out in Varanasi for a fortnight of Ashram Experience. The Feast of Christ the King was celebrated with joy and religious fervor. Our winter holidays begin from 13th of December. Kindly pray for peace and justice among the people of Nandigram and Assam.(Felix Anthony)
