JAMSHEDPUR DIOCESE

          Vol. XXXVII No. 07

JAMSHEDPUR, INDIA

JULY, 2007

Laugh and the world laughs with you;

Weep and you weep alone;

This grand old earth must borrow its mirth,

It has troubles enough of its own.

Sing, and the hills will answer;

Sing, it is lost on the air;

The echoes bound to a joyful sound

But shrink from voicing care.

Be glad, and friends are many;

Be sad, and you lose them all;

There are none to decline your nectared wine,

But alone you must drink life’s gall.

There is room in the halls of pleasure

For a long and lovely train,

But one by one we must all file in

Through the narrow aisles of pain.

Rejoice and men will seek you;

Grieve and they will turn and go-

They want full measure of your pleasure,

But they do not want your woe, (Ella Wheeler Wilcox)

Holy Spirit College, Leuven : I am fine over here. I will be leaving to the States on June 14 as planned earlier. We have good rains these days and the weather is pleasant too. It is spring here now. The days are already very long. Our Priests must be preparing to take up their new assignments. Let us pray that the Lord bless all of us, so that we all work with new zeal and commitment to the cause of the church.

There is lot of excitement and sensation in Germany, since someone yesterday (tried to) jumped on the Papamobile. It seems that he was a German. So the German TV and print media is publishing these very much. i began my summer ministry in the archdiocese of Newark on June 15. i will be here till September 18. the parish is in Fort Lee (city), just four kms. away from the city of new york. the parish has 1300 registered families. there are two priests working in the parish. it is a nice place and a beautiful parish to work with.  (John Crasta)

 Collegio Missionario Internationale :  I am glad that all the three professors were happy with my work, a 400 page stuff (in two line space), and was awarded "Summa Cum Laude". I have relaxed for two days. I had a small meal-out with Dileep and friends as well. Dileep did a wonderful thing as a main-line support on the day, and Joseph Xavier was also present.

 I am asked to publish the whole of the work, as they found the stuff interesting. Usually a section alone is sufficient. Publishing the whole thing will need more corrections meticulously, as was observed in the time of defence. Besides as the author, Mark Heim, an american Baptist minister and professor of a seminary, is alive, I am already in contact with him by mail. In fact, he had sent me some of his works in the beginning of the year; now he wanted to read the whole thesis. I had already sent in the material and now have to wait for his observations as well. I need to get the material ready for publishing; get it approved by the three professors, the Dean of the faculty, the Secretary General of the University, Imprimatur from Vatican office, besides the approval of the author himself.

 Meanwhile considering whether I could finish or not my full work before June, I have accepted through the Formator-Spiritual Father of the college placement for summer ministry in Italy (I could not manage to get it in non-Italian land), so that on the reopening of the university in October I can continue with the work and permissions for print. So, I have not planned the booking of tickets back home-land yet. I will let you know the levels of progress as days pass by.

 I wish all the best for one and all. My sincere thanks for your prayers and wishes once again. May God bless and keep us.(Selva)

St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore: Loving greetings from the city of gardens.

Our seminary reopened on 01st of June. But my exams are still on-up to 13th of June. I am fine and doing well. I have been elected as the first year Doyen. There are 72 students in the first year theology(institute)and 48 in the seminary. There are two brothers from Jharkhand, (

one for Daltangunj and Simdega) in the first year. There is a second year student for the diocese of Daltangunj.

 I do keep praying for u and our diocese, and I beg of your for the same.(Jilson T.)

The new Catechumenal Way Convivance: Ten Parish Priests with Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J.joined the convivance held at SDC, Ranchi from 19th to 22nd June, 2007. Fr. Leonardo, the head of the team, facilitated this convivance. In the sessions that he gave during these days, made it clear that this new catechumenal way is one of the ways in the Church, recommended by Pope John Paul II, to help the baptized Catholics to become adult in Faith. He explained that this new way begins with the preaching of the Kerigma that invites people for conversion which leads them to experience the love of Crucified Jesus mainly in the celebration of the Eucharist. This love binds them in a community of believers who have experienced a radical change in their lives and are with an urge to witness to and share this love with others by making them realize that only in Jesus can any one find true happiness and fullness of life.(Edwin Coelho)

Bhijan Liturgical Seminar, SDC, Ranchi. Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo, Archbishop of Ranchi inaugurated the seminar at St. Albert’s College, Ranchi on June 06. Fr. Linus Kujur, S.J., the programme co-ordinator welcomed the 37 participants of Bhijan dioceses. The theme of the seminar was : What is Liturgical year and its importance :  Mary in the life of the Church and its liturgical celebrations: Sanctity and the process of canonization : Tribal feasts and the celebrations in Christian perspective:

Jamshedpur  was represented by Mr. Richard Sarky, Miss Jaya Anthony and Pradeep Jojo The seminar concluded on June 8th noon. (Richard)
