Sacred Heart Church, Adra : On December 03, 2006 34 altar boys and girls were inducted into the society of Altar servers during the solemn Mass Presided over by Fr. Jerome Pereira, the Parish Priest. The children were well prepared by Fr. Edward Saldanha and came to the Church in procession in the company of their parents. The cassocks were blessed and given during the Mass. The Church were administered an Oath by the Parish Priest. Immediately after the Mass, the newly professed altar servers were given breakfast and token gifts before they left for home celebrations. Congratulations to Frs. Jerome and Edward for the new initiative and well organized Parish celebration of the event.

Fr. Edward Saldanha was the Chief Celebrant at the Christmas Vigil Mass on 24th night. The parish children had their Christmas tree celebrations on 21st evening and 110 children enjoyed the hour long programme.

 

Sacred Heart School, Adra. The Annual Elocution & Speech Contest of the School was held on Saturday, 2nd December at 4.00 p.m. at the School campus. Fr. Pius Fernandes, S.J., Principal, De Nobili School, Digwadih was the Chief Guest. Parents, Guardians and Guests were present in large number. 54 students took part in the competitions. Congratulations to the Staff and Students of Sacred Heart School for the beautiful contest.

 

St. Barbara’s Church, Mosaboni : The Parish celebrated the Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee of Fr. Raphael Monteiro on December 3. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the solemn Mass. Bishop Joe Rodericks, S.J. and many priests were present for the Mass and felicitation programme. The celebrations concluded with a family meal at 1.00 p.m. It was also celebrated as the Parish Day, the feast of St. Barbara. Congratulations to Fr. Raphael Monteiro!

 

St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Golmuri: Dean, Fr. Amatus Kujur arranged a recollection for the clergy of Jamshedpur Deanery on December 07 from 4.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the Cathedral Church. Bishop Cyprian Monis of Asansol gave the recollection. There were 24 clergymen to participate in the recollection. Congratulations to Fr. Amatus for the initiative.

Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the Vigil Mass on the 24th night in the Cathedral. He exhorted the faithful to recognize Child Jesus in every child in the world. This attitude will lead the people to experience peace, joy and happiness with the new born Child Jesus.

Bishop’s House, Golmuri: A meeting of the Diocesan Clergy was held at the Bishop’s House on December 06 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. chaired the meeting and presented the Diocesan pastoral and educational guidelines for the clergy to study and respond before December 31. Fr. Alex Mascrenahas, S.J addressed the clergy on the matters of financial policies of the government of India and its implications on the Church in general. He dwelt on the importance of book-keeping and day-to-day accounting in the parishes and institutions to comply with the law of the country. Fr. David shared his concerns on the present financial position of the diocese and explained in detail the accounting package to be followed. He also specified the need of the contribution from the institutions to the Diocese. The meeting concluded with a sumptuous lunch.

The diocesan regents had their annual retreat at Jesu Bhavan from the 4th p.m. to 9th p.m. preached by Fr. Gilbert Menezes, S.J. Seven of the eight attended the retreat.

The XITE Faculty and Students came to the Bishop’s House on December 17 at 5.00 p.m. to sing Christmas Carols for the community and it was the 1st group to arrive with the Good Tidings.

 

Brothers Pradeep Marandi and Jondko Kandeyang were ordained Deacons by Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Golmuri on December 19 during the concelebrated Eucharist at 5.30 p.m. Both of them had their family members present for the Mass and the family meal. Many priests and religious participated in the liturgy. Jondko is from Chaibasa Parish and Pradeep from Tundi. Congratulations to both of them and their family looking ahead greater celebrations.

The Christmas Milan-2006 was held at the Welfare Centre Hall on December 25th at 4.00 p.m. The Candidates of Ashirvad, Sankosai  presented beautiful dances to add joy to the celebrations while the Novices of Jesu Bhavan sang Christmas Carols for the 150 plus well wishers representing the various Christian and non-Christian denominations in the Hall. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. welcomed the guests and Bishop O.K. Tirkey, Mr. V.N. Singh, and Mr. Bailey Bodhanwalla shared Christmas messages. The arrival of Santa Claus on a bicycle enthused one and all. He danced and gave gifts to the children and the dignitaries present in the hall and out side. Fr. Vijay Kachhap, S.J. was the MC for the gathering. The celebrations concluded with tea and snacks.

 

St. Xavier’s Church, Chaibasa: Kolhan-Porahat Dean, Fr. Augustine Kullu arranged a recollection for the clergy of the Deanery at Chaibasa on December 09 from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Fr. C.R. Prabhu was the resource person and there were almost 54 clergymen taking part in the strengthening spiritual exercise.  Thanks to Fr. Augustine for the initiative and thoughtfulness for the spiritual welfare of the clergy of the deanery.

 

Lupita Parish, Telco:  Cardinal Telesphore P.Toppo, Archbishop of Ranchi blessed and inaugurated the newly constructed Church at the Lupita Campus on December 12 during the solemn Pontifical High Mass at 9.30 a.m. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J., Bp. Joe Rodericks, S.J., Bp. Cyprian Monis of Asansol, Bp. Julius Marandi of Dumka,  Bp. Paul Lakra of Gumla  and 14 Priests  concelebrated with the Cardinal. The solemn blessing, Mass and felicitations ended at 1.30 p.m. Immediately after all joined for the family meal with the parish community. Congratulations to Fr. Vijay Bhat and the parish Council for the hard work and well planned construction of the beautiful Church in honor of Our lady of Guadalupe. The Guadalupe Sisters from Ranchi were  present for the celebrations and indeed the candidates presented a skit depicting the history of  Guadalupe.

 

St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bhilai Pahari:  The solemn Blessing and Inauguration of the newly constructed St. Joseph’s Hospital was held on December 12, 2006. Mr. Madhu Koda, Chief Minister of Jhardkhand arrived at the campus at 3.10 p.m. to a rousing welcome in the company of Mrs. Jobha Majih, Minister of Welfare. As soon as Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo, Bishop Felix Toppo, Bishop Cyprian Monis, Bishop Paul lakra and Bishop Joe Rodericks arrived the programme began. Mrs. Jobha Majih inaugurated the dispensary while the Nursing students of Jeevan Jyothi School of Nursing, Tata Motors sang praises to the Lord to extend hearty welcome to the guests. The students of St. Joseph’s Hindi School, Golmuri led the dignitaries to the hospital building by a tribal dance. Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo offered the prayers of blessing and dedicated the hospital to St. Joseph from the portico. The Chief Minister inaugurated the hospital by cutting the ribbon, breaking a coconut and unveiling the plaque. Then the Cardinal broke a coconut and led the people inside the building. Dr. Hynek unveiled the 2nd plaque quoting that the hospital is gifted by Mr, Jiri Holy, President LL, Likvidace Lepry of Czech –Republic.

 Then the dignitaries came on to the podium for the official function. Mr. Madhu Koda, Bishop Felix Toppo, Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo, and Dr. Hynek Kmonicek , the Czech Ambassador  addressed the gathering . Mr. Ronald D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks. Later all were invited to visit the hospital and share snacks. Mementos were presented during the programme to  Ephrem Kispotta (Architect), Mrs. Madhumitta (Architect), Miss Baby Sikka (Architect), Mr. Gopal Sharma(Construction in charge), Mr. Thomas Murray (Supervisor) for their dedicated service  to construct the hospital. The diocese of Jamshedpur is grateful to Mr.Jiri Holy, President LL, Likvidace Lepry for the gift of the Hospital at Bhilai Pahari.

On December 13, Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. offered a special Mass at the hospital Chapel and dedicated it to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The chapel is meant specially for the staff and patients of the hospital. The Sisters of JMJ with their Provincial Superior, Sr. Ennamma Yeruva and the hospital staff were present for the Eucharistic celebration. After the Mass, Bishop presented gifts to all the workers and had tea-snacks with them. Ten Patients were admitted to the hospital on the 12th itself.  Thus the much awaited hospital for Leprosy, TB , HIV/Aids and malaria got a start at Bhilai Pahari on the December 12, 2006.     

 

Little Flower School, Telco: The school Graduation Ceremony for 2006 was held on December 09 in the School Auditorium at 3.00 p.m. Mr. N.K. Dutt (Deputy General Manager, HR, Tata Motors) was the Chief Guest while Mrs. Navanita Dutt to present the awards. It was a well disciplined and planned programme for everybody to reflect and enjoy. Congratulations to the Cluny Sisters, Staff , graduating students and all.

 

Catholic Ashram, Purulia : Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation to 14 members of the Parish on December 17, during the Concelebrated Holy Eucharist in the Parish Church. The Church was packed with believers and the choir sang devotional hymns during the liturgy to experience the power of the Holy Spirit on the people.

 

Cheshire Home, Sundernagar: The annual Christmas gathering with the inmates of the Cheshire Home was held on December 17, at 10.30 a.m. Mrs. Srimonti Sen was the Chief Guest. Many priests, religious, social workers and VIPs of the town participated in the celebrations which concluded with lunch at noon.  

 

St. Xavier’s School, Purulia :  The Flag Day was celebrated for Communal Harmony by the Students of class XI with a meaningful prayer service, poster contest and voluntary fund raising. The month of December saw many a memorable event in the school. The fourth Sports Day was held after the lapse of two years to mark the feast of St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of the school. Mr. Binayak Bhattacherjee, the chairman of the Purulia Muncipality was the Chief Guest. Angela Mahato bagged the individual championship whereas the team championship was awarded to Preeti (Red) House.

The School organized the ‘Third Diocesan Inter English Medium Schools Sports Meet 2006’ on 9th December, 2006 on our school ground consisting of five schools viz, Loyola School, Kumardhubu, Sacred Heart School, Adra, St. Xavier’s, Chaibasa, St. Mary’s English School, Bistupur and St. Xavier’s Purulia. It was very encouraging to see that three Principals : Fr. Gerry Martin D’Souza, Sr. Linda, UMI, Fr. Edward Saldanha with their teachers were present to lend all support to the pentangle meet. Since the Chief Guest, Mr. Nikhil Mukherjee, MLA had to leave Purulia to Kolkata on an emergency call at the last hour, we requested Fr. Gerry Martin to be the Chief Guest, which he kindly accepted. We are grateful to him and speaking so well to the gathering. There were more than 150 athletes from our five schools. The gorgeous Sacred Heart Band added a real decorum and delicacy to the march past. The new golden flag to the meet read the motto of the diocese “ Adveniat Regnum Tuum”. The whole event was very successful as all the details were well worked out by the dedicated team of teachers and workers. It was a marvelous teamwork. A word of sincere thanks goes to all the Principals of the participating schools for lending full co-operation and support to make the meet a grand success.

Our school athletic team consisting of 32 competitors put up a spectacular show by winning the overall championship Cup with 87 points. This is indeed a hat trick as the school won the  championship three years in succession. The final tally of other schools stood as Loyola with 14 points, St. Mary’s with 19 points, Sacred Heart with 43 and St. Xavier’s Chaibasa with 77 points. The Fourth Athletic Meet will be conducted next year by St. Mary’s English School, Bistupur.

The school work has regretfully been disrupted and interrupted by the constant “Bandhs” in December. Already we had five of them. (Hilary Lobo)

 

Bible Society of India, Jamshedpur Unit: The Annual Inter-Church Singing competition organized by the Bible Society of India, Jamshedpur Unit was held at St. Joseph’s Welfare Centre on December 17 from 6.00 pm. To 9.00 p.m. Fr. Marcel Barla, OFM(Cap) gave the Christmas Message . 14 Churches took part in the competitions. Gyan Deep was awarded the 1st Prize and Emmanuel Baptist Church got the 2nd. Congratulations to Dr. Jonathan Mahapatra , the Honorary General Secretary and the Executive Body for the  well organized competition. Over 1000 people were present to enjoy the programme.

 

Indian Christian Association, Jamshedpur: The  Christmas gathering  organized by the ICA  was held at St. Joseph’s Welfare Centre on December 22. Different Churches and Institution took part in the celebrations. Awards were presented to the various groups and individuals. It was well attended and participated. Congratulations to Dr. Raymond D’Souza and the organizing committee for the beautiful gathering.
