D I O C E S A N   R O U N D – UP:

 

 

St. Xavier’s English School, Chakradharpur:  The new school block constructed at the old farm land was inaugurated by Mr. Sukhram Oraom, the local MLA and blessed by Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. on April 01 at 4.30 p.m. The school children gave a spectacular welcome to the guests as they arrived at the school grounds with a well prepared thematic cultural extravaganza. Bishop Felix together with Fr. John Otto blessed the new building while the school choir sang hymns of praise to the Lord. Mr. Sukhram congratulated the fathers and the church authorities for their contribution in the field of education and in particular fulfilling the urgent need for an English Medium school in CKP. Bishop in his address cautioned the parents and teachers the importance of value education in the spirit of the Gospel. He also proposed that every child should get the privilege of good education. Later token gifts were presented to the architect, Mr. Ephrem Kispotta and contractor, Mr. Anikul for their hard work to give the School building such a beautiful look. All shared tea and snacks after Principal, Fr. Halan Bodra proposed the vote of thanks. Congratulations to Fr. John Otto and Fr. Halan Bodra for the initiative and supervision.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bishop’s House, Golmuri : The  scheduled clergy meeting took place at the Curia Hall on April 03 from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 noon. Bishop Felix Toppo presided at the session and began the meeting with a short prayer. Fr. Vernon D’Souza led the clergy with a Bhajan for the meeting. Bishop congratulated all the clergy and religious working in the diocese for their hard work and witnessing the Lord’s Love to the people. He urged the need to have more priests for the evangelization work in the untouched areas of the diocese.

Then he dwelt on the final statement of the CBCI on the theme “Catholic education and the Church’s concern for the Marginalized”. Fr. Gerry D’Souza read out the statement and the assembly adopted to follow the action plan with immediate effect .It was proposed that all the educational institutions should be asked to follow the same.

The meeting took note of the proposal to convoke a Diocesan Synod as early as possible visualizing the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese in the year 2012. Fr. Bipin Pani gave a presentation on the ‘Diocesan Perspective Planning” held at the Vikas Bharati, Sundernagar from  March 13-15.

Fr. Ignatius Tete, S.J. gave an excellent and meaningful re-collection talk to the 160 clergy - religious at the Cathedral Church at 3.15 p.m. This was followed by Adoration and Confessions. Bishop Felix Toppo presided at the solemn Chrism Mass at 5.30 p.m. The Silver Jubilarians – Fr. Richard Miranda, Fr. Manu Horo, Fr. Henry Sequeira , Fr. Pascal Vincent OFM and the Golden Jubilarian, Bro. Oscar Rodericks ,S.J. were present . After the Mass, all assembled at the Welfare centre Hall to felicitate the Jubilarians and to share the family meal. Fr. Leo D’Souza mesmerized the gathering with his melodious solo presentation. Shawls and flower bouquets were presented to the jubilarians by the Bishop. Fr. Manu Horo representing the jubilarians thanked the clergy and religious for their prayers and wishes. Fr. Vincent Pascal offered the prayer of grace. There were over 300 members of the clergy and religious to share the agape prepared by Fr. David Vincent and his team.

The ceremonial Diaconate Ordination of Bro. James Surin was held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on April 26. Bishop Felix ordained James a deacon in the presence of his parents, family members, Priests, religious from the deanery and parishioners of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Golmuri. Fr. Joseph Surin, S.J. was the M.C for the liturgy while Fr. Leo D’Souza for the felicitation at the Welfare centre Hall. Over 120 people participated at the agape in the Hall.

 St. Robert’s Church, Parsudih: Sarhul feast was celebrated in a simple manner on 2nd April. Fr. Sunil Lakra, S.J. presided at the Eucharist in the Church. The Eucharistic celebration had tribal flavour throughout, with hymns being sung in all the tribal languages of Chotanagpur. All the faithful received Saal flowers  at the end of the Holy Eucharist. Thanks to Fr. Sunil and congratulations to all the members of the Parish Council. ( Anthony Felix).

 Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the solemn Palm Sunday liturgy on April 9 at the Parish Church. He introduced to the community Fr. Akash, IMS, who has joined the Parish to minister the School and Mission at Rahargora. He will reside at Parsudih and shuttle to Rahargora daily .Bro. Anthony Felix rushed home on April 5 on hearing the sad news of the demise of his Father in Kanniyakumari. He returned on April 19.

 

 

St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Golmuri : Fr. Anil IMS and Sr. Ann Thomas SSH conducted 3 days of Charismatic retreat at the Cathedral Church for the faithful of the deanery from the 6th to 8th from 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the Eucharist on the 1st day and the last day. The Church was packed on all three days.

Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided over the Maundy Thursday Liturgy at the cathedral on April 13 at 5.30 p.m. The Easter Peace rally organized by all the churches of Jamshedpur had about 1000 people in attendance. Bishop Felix Toppo gave an inspiring Easter Peace Message to the assembled community at the Loyola grounds at the end of the hour long walk through the town.

I will be visiting friends and benefactors abroad from May 03 to June 29. During my absence the Vicar General, Fr. George Mannarakam will be in-charge of the ordinary affairs of the Diocese.

St. Mary’s Church, N. Road: Fr. Gerry Martin D’Souza was read in as the Associate Pastor of St. Mary’s by Fr. Edwin Coelho on April 09 during the solemn Palm Sunday Liturgy. Fr. Gerry joined the Parish community on April 10. Fr. Emmanuel Parappuram , S.J was admitted to the Tata hospital, Telco on April 20 for a minor surgery. He is back home hale and hearty.

Bishop Joe Rodericks, S.J. presided at the Maundy Thursday services at the forecourt of the School.

The Good Friday Passion was sung by the DDS Brothers led by Bro. Cyprian Lobo and Fr. Praveen O.P. It was well appreciated by all.

Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided at the Easter Vigil Services. The ground was packed to capacity.

Fr. Edwin Coelho traveled to Hazaribagh on April 20 and preached a retreat for the Holy Cross Sisters for 8 days.

 

St. Mark’s Parish, Toklo :  Pastor, Fr. Camille Hembrom gave his attendance at the Jamshedpur Court on April 10 for a case which he had filed long ago while he was the Principal of St. Robert’s School. Fr. Cyprian Lobo and Roque Cardoza visited Toklo on April 09 and gifted 5 goats from Kripa Sadan farm.

Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. was the Chief Celebrant at the Parish Day , feast of St. Mark on April 25. On the same day the Mass Centre of Toklo was declared as a full-pledged  Parish and Fr. Herman Tigga was read in as the Associate Pastor. During the solemn liturgy the Bishop conferred the sacrament of Confirmation on 23 members of the parish. Immediately after the Mass the hostel children and parishioners presented various cultural items on the specially erected stage in honor of the Bishop and the guests and to celebrate the Parish Feast.

Kripa Sadan, Bhilai Pahari : A free medical camp was conducted at the newly constructed dispensary at Bhilai Pahari on April 02 from 9.00 .a.m to 3..30 p.m. Dr. R. K. Mohanty , Sr. Elsy Cherian and Ms. Rini teamed up with Brothers Linus Kindo, James Surin and Arputha Raj to help out 245 patients, who came for medical assistance. At the same time it was announced to hold another camp on the 1st Sunday of May.

April 10 will be recorded as a historic day for Bhilai Pahari . On this auspicious day, Sr. Fidelis JMJ led Sr. Irene JMJ and 2nd year Novice Sangeeta JMJ to the newly constructed convent at 10.30 a.m. in the company of Fr. Cyprian Lobo. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. blessed the convent building in the presence of the workers, Sisters and Priests. Immediately after the blessing ceremony, all assembled at the Kripa Sadan to enjoy the special meal hosted by Fr. Cyprian Lobo. Frs. Camille Hembrom and Herman Tigga joined the celebrations as special guests from Toklo.

The storm on 25th April blew off the garage roof and all the sheds for the animals. Director, Fr. Cyprian is busy these days with relief work in the campus to give shelter to his animal friends.

Jisu Marsal, Tuidungri-Chandil: Fr. Pius Marandi was the Chief Celebrant at the Easter Vigil services at the special puja stage erected in the campus. Fr. Pius in alb-cincture-stole-shawl and Fr. Nicholas in Kurta-Pyjama were made to squat on the stage during the whole liturgy. Fr. Pius sang the Easter Proclamation in Santhali and the Mass readings were in Santhali-Mundari-Hindi. Fr. Pius preached an inspiring homily for the joy of the people gathered numbering 300. At the end of the Mass Fr. Nicholas blessed the saal flowers and distributed to all as part of the celebrations. The parishioners wished each other placing flowers on the head/ears of the people. Soon after the Mass the ground got transformed into a dancing field which ended at 6.00 a.m. on Sunday.

St. Joseph’s School, Golmuri : The Annual School Prize Night was held on April 20 at the Welfare Centre hall at 5.30 p.m. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. was the Chief Guest and Mr. Ratan Kumar Singh, DEO, East Singhbhum , Guest of Honour. The hour long cultural programme presented by the school children was well appreciated by the Parents , Guardians and Guests. Awards were presented to the meritorious students of all classes and special prizes for the outstanding ones in the various academic and extra curricular activities. Sr. Marie SSH, the Headmistress presented the School report. Mrs. Arputham Mary was the MC. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi proposed the vote of thanks. Congratulations to Sr. Marie, staff and students of St. Joseph’s for the beautiful Prize Night celebrations.

 

St. Xavier’s English School, Purulia:  The new academic year commenced from 23rd March 06 with an inspiring prayer service. On 25th March, the whole teaching staff had their orientation by Mr. Dicky Mody, Ex-vice President of TDMC, Jamshedpur who conducted four sessions on team building. His four sessions were well appreciated by all the teachers. This year’s new admissions had a unique feature. Usually the school admits twins but this year we admitted triplets in the junior section. Principal Hilary is put on the voter’s list in West Bengal with an I-card. A certificate has been awarded to both Achinto Mahato and Saurav Kataruka for having been placed in their respective levels among the top 10% in the National Standard Examination in Astronomy 2005-2006 which was conducted at 400 centres in all with a total of 6900 candidates at the Junior level and a total of 4300 candidates at the senior level. The school got its permanent No Objection Certificate from the West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services, Kolkata. It’s another feather in our cap. The student council had their elections and got down to business immediately under the dynamism of their moderator, Mr. Binod Das.(Hilary Lobo,S.J)

 

St. Paul’s Church, Maluka: Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. confirmed 60 members of the parish on April 22, during the solemn Eucharist at the special shamayana in front of the presbytery. The campus was filled with people from all the village segments. The children and adults were well prepared by the catechists, Sisters for the sacrament of Confirmation. Immediately after the Mass there was a welcome program in honor of the Bishop and guests. Later in the day, Bishop visited couple of villages to see perspecitive land to set up new mass centre. Congratulations to Fr. Valerian Lobo, Fr. Paschal Minj, Sisters, Catechists and the Parish Council Members for the well planned celebration.

 

 

 

St. Ignatius Parish, Rengra: On April 23, Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. presided over the solemn Eucharist at the Parish and conferred on 40 youngsters the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a day of celebration at Regnra. The villagers had come in big numbers to be part of the celebrations. Congratulations to the Fathers, Sisters, Catechists and members of the parish Council for the meaningful celebration in the parish.  

Divya Bharati, Chaibasa: The Holy Week was celebrated with great devotion and joy in Khuntpani for the first time. Frs. Corne , Fabian and the M.C. Sisters took great interest to share the joy of Easter with the faithful who turned in great number for the Vigil and morning Masses.

Fr. Fabian directed 2-days retreat for the teachers of Kolhan in the beginning of the month. The faithful of Goilkera covered themselves and wiped their tears with the shroud of Turin. Fr. Fabian preached 3 days retreat for them. Later Fr. Fabian shared the Easter Joy with the teachers of St. Anne’s schools of Lachragarh Vicariate.

Meanwhile Fr. Corne started the house blessings in Khuntpani area and conducted Krusvir animators meetings and seminar for the children.

The storm cleared off 20’ of the Divya Bharati compound wall and now looking for favorable donors to re-construct at the earliest.(Fabian )

Leuven : I had a wonderful time in Germany. The Holy Week as well as the Easter celebrations were very nice. I am back in Leuven. Now the weather is very lovely. The summer has begun and we hope that it remains pleasant for more time. Regards to Monsignor. (John Crasta)

 

Rome:  I am keeping fine. Loving greetings to one and all in the diocese. I am back to books and regular work after the Pasqua break. We have regular basketball game and life goes on. The days, weeks, and months disappear fast. (Selva Raj)
