The changes introduced by the new Roman Missal 2002 and the theological vision behind these changes :

The Priest : Whenever he is present at mass, he should participate as a vested concelebrant [114].

“When the Bishop presides, a priest, in the absence of a deacon, proclaims the Gospel, asks for and receives a blessing from the Bishop” [212] in the same manner as would a deacon.

“The priest is to pray the Eucharistic Prayer alone ‘in virtue of his ordination’ while the people associate themselves…in silent faith as well as by prescribed acclamations…. And the great Amen after the final doxology…” [147].

The priest may exchange a sign of peace only with others in the sanctuary.

The Breaking of the Bread is reserved to the priest and the deacon [83]. The extraordinary ministers should not involve either in breaking of the Bread or filling of chalices with the precious blood.

The priest may elevate the consecrated host over the chalice at the This is the Lamb of God. Otherwise the host may be held over the patten. But the host is by itself never held aloft at the Ecce [243,157].[CCBI – January –1]
