JAMSHEDPUR DIOCESE

Vol. XXXII No. 12

JAMSHEDPUR, INDIA

JUNE 2003

Good Lord, give us Thy grace

Not to read or hear this gospel

of Thy bitter Passion

With our eyes and ears

In manner of a pastime,

But that it may with compassion

So sink into our hearts

That it may stretch

To the everlasting profit of our souls .

Confession: Pope John Paul II reminded priests about their need to go to confession frequently and to be faithful to Church teaching when they administer the sacrament. He said this when he met the officials of the Apostolic Penitentiary, as well as with Priests and Seminarians who were attending an annual course on the so-called internal forum – matters of conscience relating to the sacrament of penance. The Holy Father said the sacrament of forgiveness of God "must be received from the priest above all with faith and humility, as well as with convinced frequency". The Holy Father stressed, ‘I wish to call your attention to the duty to adhere to the magisterium of the Church concerning the complex problems that occur in the bioethical sphere and concerning the moral and canonical norms in the sphere of marriage . [Zenit]

There once was a little boy who wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with cupcakes, several cans of root bear and started his journey. When he had gone about three blocks, he saw an elderly woman sitting on a park bench watching the pigeons. The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root bear when he noticed the lady looked hungry, so he offered her a cupcake. She gratefully accepted and smiled at him.

Her smile was so enchanting that he wanted to see it again, so he offered a root beer as well. Once again she smiled at him. The boy was delighted!

They sat there all afternoon, eating and smiling without a word.

As it began to grow dark, the boy got up to leave but before he had gone no more than a few steps, he turned around and ran back to the old woman, giving her a big hug. She gave him the biggest smile ever.

When the boy arrived home his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked "What has made you so happy today?" He replied: "I had lunch with God." Before his mother could respond, he added "You know what? She’s got the most beautiful smile in the whole world!"

When the woman went home, she told her son that she had lunch with God and he was much younger than believed.

Truly, people come into our lives for a reason, season, or a lifetime. Take no one for granted and embrace all equally with joy! [Agnel News,]

Ecclesia de Eucharistia : The Eucharist is the greatest gift Christ gave his Church, a gift that makes the sacrifice or his life present for all time and gives strength and hope to the world . [Pope John Paul in his 14th Encyclical published on 17th April, 2003] In this letter , the Pope reaffirmed the traditional teaching of the Church on the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, on the need for validly ordained ministers for its celebration, and on the importance of following the Church’s liturgical norms. The 82 year old Pope also used the encyclical to express how important the Eucharist has been in his life and offer a reflection on the Blessed Virgin Mary, "Woman of the Eucharist". Those who would like to have a copy of this encyclical, please contact - Bishop’s House , Golmuri: [ Rs.7.00 per copy].
