"Untitled (veil)"
Acrylic, backlight film, baby oil gel, paint
Diameter 12 inches
2004
I was asked to do a piece regarding an inside/outside theme.
While others approached this in the literally, I felt more
comfortable in investigating intellectual inside/outside.
I have created a representation of a porthole (just good enough
to convince the average viewer) from acrylic. I photographed
(then Photoshoped a bit) a wedding veil under water. This image
was printed on backlight film. I placed a layer of baby oil gel
inside to give it the illusion of being under water. I placed this
in the glass elevator located in the SAUDER School of Business.
However anywhere where it is able to receive light from behind
would be appropriate.
