"Untitled (Smell)"
Wood, paint, metal, glass, Play-doh
6 x 5 x 9 inches
2005
Smell is one of the senses that sharply links the object
emitting the odour to a specific memory of an object, place,
person, or situation. In my piece I am interested in the
manufactured childhood. I am dealing with memories and nostalgia.
By presenting the smell of Play-doh in a pseudo-scientific situation,
I hope to question our memories of childhood. How much of our
childhood was constructed by our parents, the media, or society?
How much of what we remember is a collaboration of what was and
what we want it to be?
