| The Monster under the bed symbolizes fear usually of
the dark and the unknown. When the visual is useless, the mind runs rampant with imagination and fantasy. These fears are sometimes rooted in reality. Reaching under the bed, a hand may encounter a fuzzy slipper. Not being able to see, the slipper grows fangs and claws and becomes a mutant animal escaped form the laboratory. But this is characteristic of childhood, a shared experience by the young. Their �monsters� may not all growl and drool, but it is part of the secret society of being a kid. Even adults dabble in the things that go bump in the night, but >BR>it is not the same. It is not real for them. Adults say, �this is a fantasy � it�s fiction� and then proceed to scare the bejesus out of themselves with horror films. I am quite interested in childhood, and I find that reflecting
