8^th Grade Social Studies

 

 

Welcome to 8^th Grade Social Studies!  This year we will be looking at our great nation from its birth to reconstruction after the Civil War.  Often times, we do not truly understand the depth of the term social studies.  The field of social studies includes a variety of disciplines which include: history, political science, geography, economics, sociology, anthropology, and psychology.  Throughout the year, we will be paying attention to each of these disciplines as they relate to the story of our nation.  Two core themes of our course this year are

Effective Citizenship and The Struggle for Rights.

 

The text we are using for this course is American Nation.  The website (see link) offers online activities and practice tests that will help prepare you for our quizzes and tests throughout the year.

QuizStar is a new feature to my website.  This program allows us to take online quizzes as another form of assessment.  You will be assigned different quizzes

throughout the rest of the year that will utilize this feature.  Each one of you will have a username and password assigned to you.  You will need to log on to the site and take quizzes that I post there.  I will let you know in class when a quiz has been posted and when you will need to complete it by.  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND WE WILL BE ON THE HONOR SYSTEM AND THE SAME RULES FOR QUIZZES AND TESTS TAKEN IN CLASS APPLY.  YOU ARE TO COMPLETE THE QUIZ BY YOURSELF!!
